Wonderful campsite. Really friendly welcome from Eric. He couldn’t have been more helpful.
The campsite is very small, which was perfect for us.
It has everything you need, very clean toilets and showers, washing and drying facilities (a God-send!) and picnic tables with metal parts so you could use a barbecue.
It had everything you could ever want and it was only 12 minutes walk from the beautiful village of Strangford.
Sadly, we didn’t get a chance to visit castle Ward house.
We adore Northern Ireland and we will be back again very soon.

First stay at NT campsite and pleased to have water and electric on pitch.
Although basic facilities it is all spotlessly clean.
Mirrors and hooks not placed for someone just over 5ft, but Eric has agreed to look at hooks in showers with view to repositioning.
Shower doors have been removed so floor gets very wet but there is wooden latts on which to stand so not problem.
Don't be fooled by NT's descriptions of cycling as child friendly - mountain bike at least and not for this "aged recently returned to cycling".
Lovely day out had by walk into Strangford and ferry to Portaferry with superb lunch at hotel opposite ferry.
Walk to castle Ward house and have lunch at cafe - very relaxing and wonderful views.

Peaceful site in National Tryst property. Booking system not working properly on the day. Told it was full, but there were lots of spaces when we arrived. Nice walks around the estate and into Strangford.
Facilities adequate when the site isn't busy, but not enough at Bank Holidays. On, y 2 showers each, entered from outdoors.
Good washing up and laundry. A bit expensive for what's there, but lovely surroundings.

Castle Ward is the jewel in the crown of camping locations in NI. The site was at full capacity during the June Solstice weekend that we visited, with heatwave conditions.
Despite the busy numbers, the site was never anything other than immaculate. Although the facilities are basic, everything works & was fastidiously clean.
There is so much to do within a close walk of the site that a weekend doesn't begin to scratch the surface. For example, we took a bottle of Prosecco down to the jetty near the campsite at sunset which was an unforgettable evening. As owners of two dogs, this site was everything we could have wished for to tire them out, and more.
Already planning our next trip back.

We have just returned from a 2 day stay at Castleward, this is our first caravanning break for 20 years, so after purchasing our van a few weeks ago we headed for Castleward, after a very friendly welcome by Andy the site warden we unhitched and set up. This is a great site, hot showers, washing up room, washing and drying machine and a great location in a National Trust Estate, discount for NT members. It was the ideal site for us, very quiet at night. We will return here and would recommend it to anyone, especially families.

Lovely site in good location, some pitches with partial views of Strangford Lough. Facilities are excellent - cleaned daily and well maintained, with friendly, helpful warden on site. Small shop with information about Castle Ward property (four different walks to follow) and a few basics. Key for amenities with £20 deposit. Strangford is about 10 minutes walk and has a small supermarket and good pub with friendly staff and good pub food.

Have stayed on this site many times over the past few years and finally it has made it to this website so here is my review of a fantastic place to visit.
The site shower and toilet block is kept spotless and cleaned by the on-site warden daily and inspected at regular intervals. Ther is also a brand new laundry room with industrial washing machines and dryers. Included is a sink area for dish washing.
Castle Ward itself is an amazing National Trust property with plenty to do. Check out their web site for more details. There are also other Trust properties in the area.
For basic shopping Strangford is a 10 minute walk or a 3 minute drive and Downpatrick which has a large ASDA is only 20 minutes by car.
If you are not a National Trust member this site is expensive so joining is recommended if you are going to go a few times. It is becoming more popular so at peak times getting a pitch is nearly impossible.
Overall Castle Ward has been slowly upgraded to a 5 star standard and for families this is a must visit site. I could not recommend this place enough.
The warden stays on-site and walks around at 11pm to insure noise is kept to a minimum. No fires are allowed.
