Please note we have been advised that the campsite at this location has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. The boatyard itself is still open, for hire of boats and floating glamping holidays.
If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

Hippersons is a working boatyard with a small amount of boaters coming and going during the day,
The owners are both very friendly and very helpful,
The pitches are well spaced out and level with EHU close by, the watering points are a little further and may need an extra hose to fill up.
The site is in easy walking to the center of Beccles and old Market town with lots of history,
The site is close to the train station and buses run very frequently to Norwich and Lowestoft and Southwold.
The site toilet was closed when I was there due to Covid 19 restrictions
I have 4 lovely peaceful days at this site and enjoyed every minute.
Canoes, Pedlo and day motorboats can be hired.
There are some lovely walks along the river bank.
I would certainly return to this site.

To Find Site:- From Norwich take A146 towards Lowestoft. At roundabout where the A143 goes off towards Yarmouth continue towards Beccles. Within a couple of hundred metres turn right at Gillingham into Gillingham Dam. Follow this road almost all the way to Beccles but at the 30 mph sign turn left (good access) into Hipperson’s yard and pull forward to Reception on the right.
This site is a Certificated Location for the exclusive use of Caravan and Motorhome Club members and accepts five units at a time. It is located on the edge of the delightful small town of Beccles in Suffolk. The site is part of a working boatyard which has moorings and has day boats and houseboats for hire. The latter could be useful if you wanted to meet up with non-caravanning friends. The CL is on a large L shaped grass area between the Gillingham Road on one side and the boatyard parking area with the mooring beyond. During our stay the ground conditions were firm.
However if any motorhomers were concerned they could discuss with Simon, the owner, the option of parking the front drive wheels on the edge of the car park as we did. There is plenty of pitching space and where you set up is only restricted by how long your electric hook-up lead is as there are only two electric distribution points, with multiple connections.
Fresh water is available from the taps next to the boat moorings which is down a shallow bank from the car park. There is a hose reel but this would only reach as far as the car park which might be OK for filling a motorhome water tank. There is a waste water/chemical emptying point near to Reception but no specific motorhome emptying point.
There are two toilets for use by campers, and seemingly boatyard customers, but no showers This is not a secluded CL and there is a little traffic noise from the road and the car park is in regular use during the day, we did not find this an issue and it was quiet at night. The gates to the premises are locked overnight although there is an access code for both the main and pedestrian gates. This CL is good value for money which includes electric hook-up. The site also has free WiFi available but I did find this a bit intermittent. Fortunately the 4G network seemed to work well from our pitch. Card payment is accepted.
The beauty of this CL is its location just a short walk into the delightful small town of Beccles. There are numerous shops and restaurants in the town and it is well served by supermarkets with Roys, Tesco and Morrisons to choose from. The immediate area is well served by public transport. There is a railway station with trains to Lowestoft and Ipswich.
There is also an excellent half hourly bus service, running between Norwich/Beccles/Lowestoft. Other bus services also go to Southwold and other villages. This would be an ideal site for exploring the Broads and the Suffolk Coast.

Took advantage of lovely autumn weather for a three day trip to Beccles, only 25mls for us but that is the beauty of motorhoming!
Made very welcome on arrival, all services pointed out and advice on best spot for satellite reception. Good sized lawned site backed by willows looking forward to working boatyard and moorings for hire fleet. Spotless toilets and easily accessible chemical waste and rinse, good choice of electric hook ups and free wifi on site. Dogs welcome at no charge.
Ten minute walk into Beccles an attractive market town or five minute walk to riverbank with choice of long distance walks either towards Oulton Broad, or as we did a lovely 8ml circular walk to Geldeston Lock and back. ,
At £12. 00 per night its a great value site in a lovely location.
Although listed as closing1st October they stay open until the ground becomes too wet, so worth phoning to check if they are open.

We had a very pleasant week at this site. The five pitches are on an attractive grassed area adjacent to the boatyard. Some motor homes preferred to stay on the tarmacked boat and car park area. There were ample electric hook ups. The ladies and gents WC were clean and the chemical disposal point was under a manhole cover.
The site is on the edge of Beccles and it’s a pleasant walk up to the centre of town for Tesco’s and other shops.
It is adjacent to the boat yard giving a typical broadland view. We were able to photograph a kingfisher sitting on a boat in the marina outside our caravan window.
We often watched a barn owl hunting across the field in the riverside meadow.
We were able to launch our canoe from the site and paddled up to the inn at Geldestone. The tourist information office on the other side of the river gave us some excellent cycle route maps taking us around the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside.
It is possible to hire day boats from the site.
The only drawback was the two rather ancient wrecks of boats spoiling the view across the boatyard. We faced our caravan the other way!
For the bus pass fraternity there is a bus that goes past the site to Norwich and other connections to Lowestoft and Yarmouth from the centre of town.
