This site is a hidden gem. Woodland setting, ponds and good facilities.
5 Wooden huts encircle a large pond. Each hut has a fire pit and it's own picnic table and bench.
Pristine shower and toilet block with sinks, hot showers and even heated for those chilly mornings.
Only 2 miles from the small village of Overton and 2 or 3 pubs for food nearby ( you will need to book if there is more than 2 people) about 6 miles from Ellesmere with it's lake and quirky shops.
The huts which comprise of three 4 bed huts, one 7 bed, and one 9 bed. The layout in the huts is basic but clean and they have a few little extras like electric points, with kettle and clothes maiden. Tables and chairs and water carriers.
You will need to bring a camping mattress and bedding. Think camping without the tent and you are pretty much there.
Heaters can be hired in advance or for a small fee to use the electric you can bring your own.
Our party of 6 adults and 5 children aged 5, 3 and 2 had a great time exploring the wood, building fires in the pit and the obligatory marshmall roasting. It is also the first time I have BBQ'd in Febuary but it went down a treat. We even used the fire pit to bake potatoes and cook some steaks.
Remember there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes. Prepare for a camping trip but with the added bonus of a vey cosy and comfortable sleep.
Couple of things to note:
The reception is about a mile away at the Camping Lodges( very posh and Luxurious)
The track to the huts which is gated from the road is neither tarmaced or mud it is a combination of stones mud and anything else they could find to make it more driveable. We had a 4x4 and two standard saloon cars and manged it fine, just don't expect a road leading to the huts.
On the plus side only people using the huts will be on the track and it is a fair drive from the road, so it is very quiet and secluded.
Though there are wooden fences around the pond it is not fenced off( gladly) just be aware with the children.
