We visited this site following a recommendation on the message boards on here and were very pleasantly surprised. There are basically 2 very different campsites under one name, and we opted for the tent only 'nature' side of the site, which was truly excellent.

We found it was great, to be in a tent amongst only tents, and everyone was very respectful of the campsite rules, so it was peaceful and calm camping, with perfect darkness and silence at night. Wonderful!

'Nature pitches' are very large, all have some much-needed shade and all include a water and electric connection and a picnic table (which we found very useful).

Some pitches on the higher levels have private sanitary and kitchen facilities, including a fridge, but these do cost substantially more. Pitches are level but the ground is a combination of stones and compacted, hard-baked earth, so rock pegs are definitely required.

The sanitary block on the 'nature' side is modern and clean and there are a couple of jeton-operated washing machines available. There's a communal BBQ area which looked very popular.

The pool on the 'nature' side is lovely but a bit on the small side, so becomes very busy indeed in high season / school holiday periods. One problem is that inflatables are allowed, so they were everywhere, and one girl was jumping onto a small surfboard/float within inches of other pool-users. Timing was therefore important, as the pool area was a hectic place to be from about 4:30pm onwards, when people were returning from days out.

They seemed to do a good evening trade in pizzas and so we decided to join the queue and were very glad we did; they were excellent! The site is a 10-12 minute drive from good supermarkets and the lovely Uzès is just a short drive away, with lots of restaurants and bars.

In-between the 2 parts of the site, there is a playing field and a 'treetop adventure course' for kids. The original (older) part of the campsite has smaller pitches and a second pool.

This is where reception is situated, as well as a playground and a small bar/restaurant. You can walk between the two different site areas, through woodland or along a track.

There's no evening entertainment (hooray!) and we felt it was a very tranquil, safe, traditional campsite.

We loved it and will definitely return!

Thoroughly enjoyed a couple of weeks at Camping Mas De Rey nestled amongst the vineyards near Uzés in the Gard area on the edge of the Cevennes. Very quiet family orientated site with no on site entertainment (which we prefer), and friendly staff. French, English and Dutch spoken at reception.

The site is split into 2 areas - a lower area with standard size pitches and an upper woodland area just for tents with very large pitches (around 250metres squared) each with its own picnic table and benches - each area has its swimming pool although guests can use either. We were in the upper 'nature' area and the pool there is lovely and always plenty of sun beds - my kids only gripe was that it closed between 1-3pm. The pitches were level and with a decent amount of shade. A couple of pitches flooded during a violent thunder storm (my husband was out in it with a small spade digging a trench to ensure the water didn't get logged on our pitch and we weren't too badly off) - but to be fair it did dry out very quickly.

There is a multi sports field between the upper and lower area, suitable for ball games etc. There is also a tree ropes course very popular with kids. Washing/toilet facilities are spotless (and has toilet paper, although no loo seats) plenty of showers too. There are also facilities for laundry and freezing ice blocks. We rented a refrigerator (which is ideal in the hot weather we experienced!) Food wise - Bread/pastries can be ordered from reception up to 7pm the day before and they serve pizza, chips and a plat du jour (which also need to be pre-ordered. )

There is a very nice little restaurant in the local village, Arpaillargues (about a 20 min walk) - La Jasse - and plenty of good restaurants in nearby Uzes (about a 6/7 min drive or 20 min cycle ride.

Good mix of nationalities, but probably more dutch (the site is owned by a dutch family).

Loads of walks/cycle routes from the campsite and lots to do in the area - Pont du Gard (great for an afternoon picnic and swim) - 15 mins drive, Haribo museum (big hit with young kids!) - 10 mins, wild swimming/cliff jumping in the Céze river Cascades de Saudet (very popular with teenagers) (40 mins) and a fascinating 1900's museum literally just down the road from the campsite. Also very central for day trips - Mediterranean coast and Camargue (1hr), Ardeche (45 mins) Orange Roman Amphitheatre (beautiful and a must see) (50 mins) Nîmes (40 mins)

We chose this site because we weren't sure whether to go to the Ardeche, Cevenne or the Camargue - this was pretty much on the border of all three so we had the best of all worlds. The only thing we didn't enjoy were the mosquitos - lots of them wherever we went so take plenty of repellent - would certainly return though.

This is a very pleasant wooded site about 2 ½ miles from Uzès. Pitches are a good size, delineated and fairly level. There are two sanitary blocks but we used the one near to reception. Although the block is modern the showers varied in flow and temperature from one and other. One or two showers were distinctly cooler and on a day after no sun they were almost too cool (probably solar heating which wasn’t backed up). Toilet paper is provided but overall cleanliness could have been better, and on one day the block didn’t appear to be have been cleaned or stocked up at all.

There are several very nice looking chalets dotted around the site, a children’s play area and a small pool with nice seating and bar area. I didn’t go in the pool so can’t comment any further on it and as it was low season the bar wasn’t open. However bread can be ordered daily and the lady who owns the campsite is very personable and friendly.

There is a separate area called “Mas de Rey Nature” exclusively for tents – we had a quick peek and it looked impressive.

Please note that since the review below the site no longer accepts ACSI

A lovely site, already planning to return next year! Dutch owned, helpful and friendly. Brread can be ordered day before. Pretty site with varying sizes of pitches. 2 smart and clean unisex sanitary blocks, no loo paper (!) Short drive to Uzes for Saturday market. Park at camp site end of town! Lovely small swimming pool, no umbrellas in June so not much shade. Small bar. Pretty village a short uphill cycle ride away. Footpath walk through fields across road from site very pleasant. Quite a few English return each year, so that hints at how pleasant it is! Takes ACSI.
