We stayed here for two nights en route to the Tarn Gorge. I took a chance after searching for sites near Vierzon and decided this one looked promising: inexpensive, near to a village, not far from the motorway etc, and small and friendly.
I did email the site to request a reservation but never had a response so, approaching the site after a 6 hour drive (with stops) from Calais was a bit unnerving: would it be full or even not exist! I guess I should have phoned.
But, it did exist and was mostly delightful - once we found it (ignore the Google maps map as it's wrong).
This is a small municipal site on the banks of the Cher, backed by the Canal du Barry. We stayed on Monday and Tuesday and there was oodles of space - but it does get busy on Friday and Saturday from what I understood from the Receptionist: indeed, there were some reserved pitches for fishing enthusiasts.
The site was pretty, with lots of trees but not so that it was dark and shaded, and very level pitches. There is a watersports centre just beside the site with dinghys and pedalos for hire.
The toilet block was bijou and compact, with a bright stripy awning. The facilities were very clean including loos, showers, wash basins and a washing machine (in the ladies!). Washing up and hand laundry sinks were at the back, with hot water provided by one tap - remember to bring a bowl.
Recycling bins were available, and also a small library (key at Reception). I think there was a communal gazebo should you need to eat under cover, plus a small children's play area.
The site was a very short walk from the village, which had a pretty church, a general store, patisserie, a butcher's shop, plus a beer shop selling Belgian and other beers. Sadly we didn't have time to sample these.
For a tent, car, electricity and two people, it was just 12. 50 euros for two nights - a complete bargain.
But, paradise does sometimes have a catch and there were a couple worth mentioning.
It was surprisingly noisy in the early morning: there is a D road that passes through the village, parallel to the motorway that joins the A71 at Vierzon. There seemed to be a lot of lorries using this route, which did disturb the tranquillity of solitude a tad. Ditto the early morning freight train. And please someone shoot the cockerel!
Ah, and don't forget the quirky church bell which tolled 50 each morning at about 7. 30. I counted.
That said, we had a lovely stay, watching the bats and strolling into the village and along the canal. The Medieval town of Minnetou Sur Cher is minutes away which is also bijou and very attractive. The surrounding area has things to offer too, with a minor chateau and forest to explore.
Recommended as an antidote to busy touristic sites - but maybe bring your earplugs.
