This site is why CL camping is such a great perk of being a club member, it is a total gem of a site!

It has been updated and relaunched into a beautifully kept field on top of the Osmington Bay headland, with magnificent views of the Isle of Portland and Weymouth and the open sea.

The owner is so friendly, she will call you a few days before your visit with the gate code, the site is easy to find, the entrance a little tight if you have a long caravan though. You find a spot in the field ( everyone opted for the front which has plenty of space for all five units. )

No toilets or hook ups but if you have your own facilities then you'll love it here. The owner pops by every evening for a cheery chat and to say hello to new visitors.

The beach is down towards the PGL activity centre and down steep steps, very narrow too so lots of friendly passing of people in each direction. You would only want to go once a day.

The pub over the road is good, lovely garden and is under new management. They serve carvery meals everyday. Beware, sea mist can roll in with very little warning leaving the area thick in fog, take all types of clothing for all eventualities, it can turn cold and damp even on a summers day.

This gem of a campsite slopes gently towards the sea, just 500m away but 100m below, giving one of the best views from any campsite we've encountered. It's also just off a fine stretch of the SW Coast path, with Weymouth to the west and Lulworth to the east. Unfortunately it opens for only four weeks each summer, due to planning restrictions.

The facilities are simple but excellent, amazingly so having to be removed each year. We never found the toilets other than spotless, and the individually gas-heated showers are strong and hot. There's a charmingly quaint pub on the Coast Path a mile to the east, and a much closer pub in the village, but we didn't eat at either.

Whether this campsites good for children depends on the children! There's plenty of safe grassy space to play games and fly kites. Kids who want adventure playgrounds will be disappointed, in fact green with envy at the scary-looking rides in the PGL summer camp down the hill! There's a long safe beach immediately below the campsite, but the stiff climb back up is probably best done just once a day.
