Probably the best family holiday we have ever had. Camping is always affected by the weather, however, so easterly of the sea, the rain is short, mild and luckily for us overnight and so had a blissful sunny enjoyment of the river and tributary. Well worth taking an inflatable as they do not hire them. Great to swim in. Our children are 9-13 and great to be left unsupervised in the river as so slow flowing and plenty of other children playing too. Hardly any English tourists, great to be amongst Dutch and their calm and practical aura. Generous sized pitches and not cheap but good value when all considered. Cheap to hire bikes 8. 50 per day adult and 5. 50 large child's. Simple and flat rides to lovely nearby Ommen and well worth getting the 80 cents guide to the local ride to Saxon self service farm. You get to choose your own pitch if booking in advance. All are good and depends whether you want nearest loos, rivers, central facilities or views. The site is strictly car free with timed ticket restricted barriers to prevent entrance/ exit, so plan carefully if using a camper as can restrict site seeing. Allow 3 hours from ferry ports at Hook of Holland-we missed our return crossing due to misjudging times. Only grumble as you pay for pitch and extra per number of group, you have to pay extra for auxiliary tents when you need one if you are larger group as already paid extra. Despite this, hope to return many times and get different experience with a different pitch.

We spent 11 nights here with our 4 kids (teens / 20's). We agree with the other reviews - a wonderful site, with a relaxed atmosphere. There is a great variety of spacious pitches, some in a field setting, others in a secluded individual area. Showers are timed for 5 minutes. Some trial and error is needed to find the showers with the most reliable hot water supply.
We enjoyed cycling, swimming, and hired some kayaks and canoes for a day to explore the rivers further. Holland is flat, so there are no scary rapids!
The site prides itself in being close to nature. There was lots of birdlife, including swallows nesting in the eaves of the toilet block, and I can now identify a Blackcap's cheep. We had moles digging around the tent and our neighbours managed to trap a little mouse - make sure that all food is carefully sealed away!
We would definitely recommend the site, and would love to return sometime.

This was the second campsite we stayed at during a 3 week trip in The Netherlands and visited with 4 and 6 year old.
The layout was fantastic, it's a big site but the landscaping and natural features mean it does not feel cramped. We swam in the river, played in the sand, cycled to Ommen, visited Zwolle, drank delicous hot chocolates in the tea room sheltering from rain, bought croissants every day and generally thought it was the best campsite ever.
One thing we were not aware of before our arrival at 8pm was that you were not allowed a second tent that was more than 1.5m high. We camp with a vw van and bell tent and had to choose, late at night, which we were going to use or face finding another site. We chose the tent camping option which was a challenge but bearable for a few days, especially when it was sunny. It was annoying as there were far bigger caravans with enormous awnings - our set up would have been considerably smaller.
However, this didn't detract much from our overall impression though and if it allowed fires, would probably be the best campsite in the world. Further, when we were at our next campsite, we realised a crucial bit from bike trailer was missing, possibly left in the long grass near our tent. A staff member visited the pitch and found the part and posted it out to us free of charge which was incredibly kind and going beyond call of duty.
Look forward to visiting again one day.

If you want peace and quiet except for the sound of birds, bees and frogs then this is the site for you. Staff speak excellent English and are very friendly and helpful. Facilities are free and clean with plenty of hot water. There are several play areas for children but the site is big enough to find a quiet pitch amongst the wildlife. Rates vary depending on your unit and additional extras. On the whole it is a little expensive but worth it for the cleanliness and well maintained facilities.
The shop is well stocked and sells organic produce and a few camping essentials. However, it does not accept Visa payments, nor do most of the shops we came across in Holland except for petrol stations. So where possible, pay in cash.
The majority of campers are Dutch or from Belgium but everyone is very friendly. A short drive away is the town of Ommen where there is a large supermarket, petrol station and a shopping centre.
We will definitely return again if we’re in the area and would recommend this site for anyone looking to get back to nature.

I stayed here with my husband and two boys (4 and 7) for 9 days. We had an absolutely lovely time. The weather was just right for most of the time (it got a bit cold and wet on two days, the rest of the time it was sunny and warm).
The campsite was really chilled out. The pitch was in a field of about 10 tents. There were lots of other families with children and all the separate fields had their own play facilities and were close to toilets and showers. My 4 year old got the hang of cycling while he was here which was ideal. It's car free (except when you are arriving or leaving) so we could let the kids have a bit of freedom to wander, cycle and play without worrying that they were going to run into cars. We cycled back and forward to the car on other days.
They made friends with some of the other kids and there was enough room to have water pistol fights and play football without me having to worry too much that they were annoying other people. We swam in a fenced off bit of the river with a sandy beach which everyone enjoyed after we got over the slightly murky water.
The local area was great for cycle rides and village visits. We had a lovely time here.

I agree with Lydia1
We pitched on the banks of the Vecht and view of the sunset on the river was superb. The sound of the birds all over the site made the place sound really tranquil.
Initially I wasn't too sure about not being able to park our car at the side of our unit, but the added quietness of no cars starting up early in the morning or constant slamming of car doors added to the peaceful settings.
We are looking forward to returning to this site in the near future.
In reply to to Lydia1's comments re the Dutch signage, all are just common sense, but if you don't understand Dutch not a lot of use, so here goes: The signs displayed on the toilet block entrance pillars mean Empty chemical toilet in the wooden shed, behind the toilet block. 'AFWASPLAATS' sign over sinks mean WASH PLACE. Only intended for washing (clothes & dishes). Not for emptying chemical toilets (apparently some people actually try this). Green sign on wall in toilet block basically says No smoking. Please keep the toilet block clean. Toilet: Please; Use toilet brush to clean the toilet bowl. Use the economy button when flushing the toilet whenever possible. Place all waste in the bins not down the toilet. Please dry the shower floor after showering. Clean and dry all sinks after use.
Hope this helps.

A really lovely site.
It's located in the countryside near Ommen just beside the De Vecht river. In fact, the river borders the site (great for swimming and boating) but a 'dead' tributary is right in the middle of the site, complete with its own small beach (for the kids).
It's a large site spread across several grassy areas and meadows. There's a strong 'natural' ethos and a very relaxed feel to the whole site. Pitches are spacious and there are ample play spaces for kids, together with a good football pitch and basketball hoop. There are also several wooden cottages to rent sensitively located. It's an extremely safe, child-friendly site.
Bike hire is available on site, together with a shop (fresh baked bread), a small cafe and a reading room. Wash blocks are modern and clean. When we were there, there were organised activities for kids - a storyteller one morning and rounders games every evening.
The site caters almost exclusively to the Dutch (the only criticism is a lack of campsite notices for non-Dutch speakers) although we were sent a brochure in English after booking. Highly recommended for a well-organised and laid back stay.
