We've just been for our first family camp trip to north Hungary. We stayed at the Eco-park (Oko park in Hungarian) campsite and hotel in Szarvasko, just north of Eger.
This is a small site with 13 hotel rooms, about 20 campervan / large tent & car separated tree shaded pitches each with EHU plus another 20 – 30 tents without cars and only a few EHU points.
We pitched our 4x5m Palamos on one of the smaller campervan pitches, but after pegging out the guys, there was no room for the car, so we used an adjacent unused pitch for the car, cooking and eating.
We can say nothing about the hotel except it looked clean and that they serve nice coffee. But it means that there is always someone on duty should they be needed! And it was good for us to know that it was there as it was our first night of family camping and if the tent fell down in the storm.
The site is well sign posted in Eger town and Szarvasko village. After arriving we were shown to the pitches and could take our pick. The owner was very friendly and took the kids to explore the some of the site whilst we put the tent up and unpacked. Later he was very helpful in finding out things to do and places to go. I know that they have staff members who speak English, but I don't know if they all do.
The one toilet block was clean and had plenty of hot water and paper! Opposite is a covered cooking, washing up and eating area. Next to that is a small play ground which the kids enjoyed using.
The campsite is completely enclosed by a fence and we were happy for our kids (7, 5 and 3) to explore it without us. It also has a climbing wall and small tree top adventure run. But to the disappointment of our larger two, these were only open by appointment.
There is a waterfall running into a small pond – although I suspect that the waterfall is from water pumped up from the pond! It has no shop, but is only a 5 minute walk to the small village shop. Or 5 mins to the village “pub”, both of which open at 6 in the morning if you fancy starting your day the traditional Hungarian way, with Palinka and a beer.
The one bad thing about the site (although it only disturbed us on the first 2 of 5 nights) is that the site is near to a main road, and morning traffic could be quite noisy.
Would we go again? Yes – when we camp in that area again, Eco-park will be the first port of call.
