Tranquil, unspoilt traditional French site with no pool, no bar, just friendly people who have been returning year after year.

Short walk through the dunes to a beautiful beach.

Just heaven.

I always loved going to France in June and wife wanted to go somewhere different. I have been further south to Royan an dit has beautiful bays. I also want to go further sometime. However, spotted this on a google earth search really and also scoured the camp sites this island has to offer, of which there are loads.

This site translates to, under the wood, which it kind of is, well spaced pitches with trees etc scattered about, giving it a feeling of privacy and being in a sparse orchard.

It is a quiet site, across the road is a boulongerie and a pizza bar, they are generally quite but used and have a nice atmosphere, a lot of passing traffic and nice to wander over in the morning ofr the early bread etc, the lady that runs it speaks no English but she is lovely and there is always a delicious array on offer.

Turn left out of the site and go between some building to the beach its about 10 mins walk. The beaches on this side of the island are generally rocky with some sand, it is a lovely beach though, but if you have young kids just be aware of whats happening in the water as rocks, flat, can be uncovered by the tide, there is an interesting German fort there too.

You can walk up the road to the nearby town of Cotiniere which is a Port, you can watch the boats come in at 4pm then see the produce on the stalls within minutes in the markets surrounding the port. There are many great restaurants and bars here and you can while away the hours sitting by the port walls watching the world go by.

A mile or so away there is an ELeclerc supermarket and the whole place is scattered with cycle paths, you can cycle anywhere on this island.

There are vineyard shops to try the produce and the speciality of the area is Pineaux which is produced locally.

I am heading back there as soon as I can, it is a gem and where the French go to holiday.

Nice quiet site when we were there at the end of the season. No pool wifi or English spoken just quiet. Has a couple of table tennis tables and climbing frames.

Washing up room nice and showers OK.

Close to the beach which can be reached through trails in the forest though not if you are carrying a lot of stuff.

They don't take cards which was somewhat vexing as I had to make a trip to the bank.
