This is a small, very friendly site, set on the banks of the Drome, with direct access to the river. You can launch your own boats here if you wish to (canoes and kayaks, anything bigger would be tricky!).
About 25 emplacements, all on a flat, grassy site with not a lot of shade. Many trees were planted within the last five years and are yet to grow to a size that will afford much shade. That said, with careful positioning, you can achieve a reasonable amount, and the owner is meticulous in suggesting the best angle to park/pitch, so as to achieve the best result. Many switched from front to rear, depending on the time of day, to achieve the ambience they required.
The ablutions block is very modern, smallish, you may need to queue for showers at certain times of day. No english toilet seats (which I maintain is always more sanitary anyway!), paper is provided, though may occasionally run out.
There's a boules pitch, a concrete table tennis table and a couple of slides. The main leisure attraction of the site is the river. A good stone beach gives all the access you need. Lots of stone and pebble building by kids and adults alike, to divert the water, etc. The river can be quite shallow in the height of summer, but still enough to float a boat, and some deeper pools/stretches.
The owner (Bernard), frequently seen on his bicycle, wearing a straw hat, is very proud of the service he provides and is extraordinarily helpful.
The whole atmosphere of the site is friendly and welcoming, though at first site it does look pretty simplistic. Well, it is. But it's also very cheap!
The area: Nearest supermarket is in Die (ten minutes), a very pleasant old town with a good range of shops and eateries/bars.
Pontaix is claimed to be the most photographed village in the area. And is five minutes by car.
The main road is pretty flat and offers good cycling.
The big attraction is France's largest National Park: The Vercors. Which is stunning in parts, and well worth several drives, much hiking and biking if you are happy with hills.
Die, and the surrounding area is famous for Clairette de Die, a sparkling wine (sweet) that is very cheap and extremely good value. A visit and tour of one of the 'caves' is well worth it. But, having discovered your favourite tipple. Go to the supermarket to buy it. It's cheaper!
