We used this site for an overnight stay, as we had an early-morning ferry crossing from Cherbourg the next day. We found it to be perfectly pleasant, although would probably not want to have an extended stay there.

The receptionist/concierge was very friendly and helpful, and spoke reasonable English (probably better than my French!).

There is a bar/café on site which, the night we visited (Saturday) was very busy.

The amenity block was satisfactory, although my wife reported that the Ladies toilet/shower area was a bit damp underfoot and could have been better maintained. The Gents seemed to be OK. There is a children's play area with bouncy castle.

The beach is a short walk away and was surprisingly clean given its close proximity to a large port.

I would not hesitate to stay at this site again if we needed an overnight stop in/near Cherbourg, the ferry port being only 5-10 minutes away.

Unfortunately one of the worst sites I’ve stayed, in fact so bad I turned a planned two night stay into one night and caught the ferry home a day early.

Its plus points are that it is close to the ferry port and the immediate area is quite pleasant, being near to a small beach and a pleasant sort of park type area, the remainder of Cherbourg however, is somewhere best overlooked.

The site itself is outdated, grubby, and unkempt. There was what looked like a local residing on the site who decided that urinating openly by his caravan in broad daylight was obviously not a problem.

I didn’t really feel I wanted to use the toilets, they were not filthy but had that something that combined with the rest of the site put you off, I decided brushing my teeth in my van with a cup of water the safer option.

The site was not particularly cheap when compared with other sites I had used whilst touring the D-Day Beaches.

As this campsite is only 5 minutes away from the ferry port in Cherbourg we have stayed here a number of times for a night before the morning ferry home. Although it is so close to the port, it is set right by a very nice sandy beach, just behind some grassy dunes and you would never guess there was an industrial docks so nearby. It is well sign-posted from both the port and the main road into Cherbourg- follow signs for Tourlaville, the Espace Loisirs de Collignon or the Ecole de Voile.

This is a municipal campsite where you can choose a pitch and check in later if the reception is closed. Some pitches are completely private and others in little enclosures of three or four demarcated by very attractive trees and shrubs- all are grassy. In addition to people overnighting, there are families on holiday, some seasonal pitches which look like no-one has been near them for years and an area for children's' groups (these have always been well supervised and no nuisance at all).

There is a huge facilities block in the centre of the site with a laundry and large washing up area and ample sinks, showers, loos, etc; every time we have stayed here this has been kept spotless.

There is a small shop in reception where you can order bread for the morning. People staying at the site can also get a free ticket for the municipal pool next door- this is indoor but has a large pool for length swimming as well as paddling pool and a leisure pool with 2 flumes and a spa bath. In previous years there has been a small children's play area on the site but this had been removed in 2012 as no longer fit for purpose and I don't know if there are plans to add a new one next year.

It takes a couple of minutes walk over the grass dunes to get onto the beach where there is a watersports school and a supervised swimming area. The dunes have been developed by the local council as an amenities area with sports courts, fitness equipment and footpaths and this is a nice place for an evening stroll with a view out to sea. There are also a couple of beach shack type cafes which we have never used but seem to be popular with the locals.

Although there is a barrier at the entrance, the campsite is potentially quite open to the general public as the gates onto the dunes are not locked; however we have never found this to be an issue and simply take the usual sensible precautions with valuables.

This is a three star site and one night for a family of four in August cost 30 Euros. Not as cheap as some municipal sites but reasonable considering the beachside location and access to a good quality pool complex.

This will continue to be our site of choice for overnighters when using the Cherbourg ferry but would also be fine for a few days by the beach if you wanted to explore this area.
