 Only campsite we could find on this side of Balaton near busy tourist town of Siofok. About 10 mins (ish) drive from Siofok centre and was really huge. Caters, seemingly, for large number of teenagers who want to let loose over the summer in what seems to be the Hungarian version of Ibiza - be warned if this is not your thing.
Luckily, when we went the season proper had not started so it was pretty quiet. The camping area is decent enough and lake side which is nice but the area is just plagued with mozzies and massive daddy long legs all night. Worse than anything I've ever seen, including in rainforest in Asia. Just take Deet everywhere with you, our Hungarian friends did say this could be a problem over this side of the lake and they opt for Balatonfured on the other side. Just be prepared for loos and showers just dripping with dll - I'm not joking.
Lovely little bars and snack places dotted around the site and there is a small village type place with shops and restaurants a few mins walk away if you don't want to go to town. Town itself chock full of bars, cocktail bars, clubs, more bars with loads of shops and places to eat and a lido with slides etc.
The lake is huge, really big and can get stormy so listen for any warning sirens. It was boiling when we went and it was lovely having a dip to cool down. Food and drink seriously cheap, pizza and beers all night for £5. Just don't forget the deet!
