We spent an extremely enjoyable two weeks here in August 2012. The site is arranged on terraces overlooking the valley, with the lower terraces having caravans and motorhomes allocated. The upper ones are for tents, with a scattering of mobile homes throughout. You will need metal pegs for your awning on the pitches as they are quite rocky, with little in the way of grass in places. There was a kids club most mornings and teenagers club most afternoons. These appeared to be quite popular with the French and Dutch children. The pool was clean and welcome for a cool off in the evenings. It was busy especially late afternoon, though not overcrowded. Strangely it was often empty or quiet first thing in the morning and around lunchtime. We had it to ourselves on several occasions at two.
Please take note of the CC comments about site access and power to weight. If you have a large twin axle or an underpowered towcar you may struggle to get to your pitch as the access roads are quite steep and at times narrow, though the site must have got the mobile home onto their pitches somehow.
The tall pine trees have been pruned to allow excellent views from most pitches down the valley, while still giving some much needed shade. The bar serves a reasonable range of food at usual French prices, which we used a couple of times and seemed to be fairly popular.
The clientèle of the site appeared to be a mix of French, Dutch and German, with the odd Italian and Spanish thrown in for good measure. We were the only British caravan on the site for the duration of our stay, though we did see a few motorhomes for the odd night on their way North or South and some British tent campers. If you like winding roads and fantastic scenery, then this is the place for you, especially if you enjoy cycling up hill and down dale. The local area is great.
We went to St. Flour one Saturday for market day to find we were in the middle of their equivalent of a county show, with agricultural stands, farm animals, classic cars, tractors and local produce.
We had two evenings of thunderstorms while there where the storm blew up and down the valley. One of nature's fantastic light and sound shows.
Would we go again. Absolutely. My children loved it, especially the pool. We thought the area was great, with terrific views and some wonderful local scenery
