I visited this campsite for a long weekend.
The booking process was straight forward and on our arrival the owner was friendly and welcoming and showed us round the site.
We found a nice pitch, the field is old permanent pasture and is slightly ridged from old ridge and furrow ploughing.
The ground was not stony or rock hard so we had no problems pitching our tent.
The site was fairly busy when we visited but this did not affect us.
The owner made sure everything was ok in the evening.
There were electric showers and proper flushing toilets and wash basins with hot and cold taps in the shower block.
Outside there were two sinks with hot and cold water to wash your pots.
The owner made sure that these facilities were clean and tidy.
These facilities are all I would wish for on a campsite.
We took our bikes and were able to cycle about. There is a very good pub in the village close by and plenty of places to cycle or walk to.
I would recommend this site and I look forward to visiting again

This is a campsite with the clean, basic facilities we required. The ground isn't completely flat. It's a field!
The location was great and only a ten minute walk down to Rutland Water and fifteen to a pub serving cask ales. Take your bikes, if you can, as there's plenty of cycle tracks nearby.
We were lucky with the weather but I think the owners need to sort out the noise from the birds, every flippin' morning! There was a crow behaving in a particularly anti-social manner.
All in all we loved it and it was good value for money.

Rutland is a beautiful area with lots of activities. We went bank holiday with fantastic weather - Rutland Water does get very busy at times like that, which wasn't great. This site was not a great experience. It was really overcrowded. There was almost no space to pitch. The ground is also slightly on a slope and up and down ridges. The facilities were basic. 3 ladies cubicles and 2 mens. 2 showers which were cold only. 2 washing sinks with no hot water. A plus point was that recycling was offered. The farmer worked hard trying to keep the toilets clean but there were so many people that he would refill the toilet roll and it would be finished in 10 mins. Very few paper towels and a basic form of washable hand towel were offered. The rubbish facilities were emptied frequently but most over flowed. Not enough bricks to raise BBQs off grass. There were just too many people on the site. Some tent pitches would have had great views. The kids loved the cattle - there is not much to do, which is great but as a result it was a problem that there were too many tents on site so there was no space to play. The dogs were under control (thank you). It is a quiet location but we had an issue with someone else's car alarm the first night and some other careless behaviour the second. Camping is social but no reason not to respect someone else's pitch - playing in their guys etc. Not the farmer's fault but didn't help a poor overall impression. Fellow campers - It is not acceptable to wash up in the toilets - especially given the number of foul and disgusting people who don't wash their hands with soap after going to the loo. If the facilities were extended and hot water provided this could be lovely. OR restrict the number of campers. Felt like a greedy farmer. Not a good experience.
I also want to add that this site does not have a freezer to cool ice packs. The great views barely offset the many, many downsides to this location. The local pub is very nice as is upmarket Hambleton Hall restaurant and hotel.

We booked to stay over the bank holiday weekend. We had booked with 2 other family members with both of their caravans too. I have to say that the host was superb, we cannot fault them they were amazing. The views are stunning and it was wonderful to see a true working farm with the harvest in full swing.
The camp site was busy, but what else would you expect on a bank holiday weekend. The setting is stunning, the host is helpful and kind, we cannot wait to go back in 2018.
The only plus side would be facilities for the caravanners.

Spent four nights here in July. Nice site pleasant wardens facilities up to usual caravan club standards. Downside too many dogs, how do people get three labrador sized dogs into average size caravan with no awning? Unsociable campers, why go if you can't be bothered to pass the time of day with fellow campers? Don't be put off by the unapealing approach and didn't hear any disrutbance from ajoining industrial site

Great little site in a lovely area with great views and easy walks to both Rutland water and the local pub. Ground on the tent site is a little up and down but we found a flat spot with about another 18 tents already on the site. Toilets and showers were spotless. Only downside we found was that we didn't manage to get any hot water am or pm. Found out the hot top in the ladies was stuck on since. So gave it 9 out of 10 for my two cold showers.

Good basic site, showers and toilet clean, potwashing sinks with hot water. You need to pick a flat spot to pitch your tent but there is lots of room. Owner very nice leaves you alone. Shop is good way away (5 miles to Oakham) so make sure you have everything. Good view, walking and cycling. Very interesting area. Village pub a mile away- very swish! Beer good, did not eat there.
Great basic site- hope it does not change, would use again.

About 4 miles from Oakham, 1 mile other side of Hambleton Village. Entrance is on a slight right hand bend (easy to miss if you're in a car but spottable when back packing). The site has not long been open to tents. Very good facilities so new you can still smell the paint! Free showers, toilets good and clean and you have washing up facilities. The owners pretty much leave you to it (no pitch up here, pitch up there sort of stuff)and the ground is fairly level and easy to get the pegs into. Car parking is in front of the house and if you have loads of stuff wheelbarrows are provided to cart it on to the camping field. Access is via a walkway between cows and CC Caravans (watch the wire fence, it's electrified!). Excellent views over Rutland Water, great watching the swifts darting around just feet in front of you hunting insects and not too far from the path around the reservoir. Hambleton Village is very picturesque. The pub, the Finch's Arms is a bit pricey but seems to have a good following. The campsite itself is good value at £6 a night (2 man dome tent) and I'd be quite happy to use it again next time I'm in the area.
Only two very minor down points, Not easy to get through on the phone to book a pitch (probably because it's a working farm)and the mirror in the Gents could use a shaving light (light from the window OK during daylight but a bummer in the evening when the daylight's gone). Would recommend this site quite happily.

New campsite at time of visit. Very difficult to find, no signage and no directions on website and phone number not providing a answer. However enjoyed the remoteness of being right at the tip of the Hambleton peninsular. Really good washing and shower facilities as brand new and well built. Claiming to be zero carbon campsite hence 50 yard walk to campsite from ridge and furrow car park. Quite quirky with use of wheelbarrow-small inconvenience. Lovely views of cow field and Rutland water. Ideally placed for accessing Rutland Water cycle route. Very friendly farmers who just leave you to get on with it.
