The Pyrenees were not on our original itinerary, but so glad we stumbled on this one when looking to stay somewhere on our route through southern France towards Barcelona. Stunning location in a valley, near Villefranche-de-Conflent, mountains front and back of us.

Our pitch was of a good size, flat, hedged and accommodated our caravan, awning and car with spare for sitting out. We had our own tap and drain, but were unable to use the latter except for tipping away waste water as it was elevated higher than the caravan outlet! It was still a welcome bonus though.

Washing facilities were dated but always very clean, and warm water always available.

Wifi was free at the hotspot beside the reception with a reasonable speed.

Owners were friendly and obliging, helped whilst we stayed by various members of the extended family. Your bread order was personally delivered to your pitch each morning by Eric - leaving it just inside the awning if there was no sign of life.

Used the snack bar one evening and had the paella special (pre-ordered) which was very good and well patronised for such a small site.

Had some good days out, including The Little Yellow Train which runs back and forth alongside the site several times a day, the abbey of St. Martin of Canigou, Gorges de Caranca, with lots more besides. Plenty of walking opportunities if we had invested in the map for the area, but ran out of time.

Would we recommend this site - definitely! Only negative point I can think of is that a main road runs quite close between Perpignan and Andorra, but you get used to it and it is noticeably less used through the night.

The site is 3 or 4 kms from Villefranche which is the starting place for the Little Yellow Train which takes you up into the Pyrenees and is not to be missed!

It is a long, thin camp stretched between the main road and the Petit Train Jaune line but is surprising peaceful - there are trees and a river between the site and the road!

There is a restaurant serving a small but tasty selection of meals in the evening as well as pizza and giant paella some nights. A small shop sells basic goods and wine can be chilled on request.

Toilets and showers clean but can overstretched at busy times. There are large, grassy sports areas (football, petanque &c) and short walks around the site. The nearby small river is okay for paddling. There are two pools where no one objected to my shorts.

Villefranche itself is extremely touristic but worth a day; it's a good site for touring especially the various trips to Mount Canigou. Nearby Prades is better for routine shopping &c. There are good bus connections as well as the trains to Perpignan.

Our only complaint was that there is no bus into Villefrance (it's not a pleasant walk along the main road) although generally, by arrangement, the owners family will give a lift.
