We stayed two nights on this very peaceful campsite. The young lady on reception was one of the friendliest people you could wish to meet after a long(ish) drive. She suggested we went for a lakeside pitch as there was a group of young people in a different area although they really weren't that noisy. The lake is beautiful and my husband had a lovely kayak on it. The facilities are a bit dated but clean. You really are in the middle of nowhere here though so make sure you take supplies although there is a snackbar on site where you can get chips etc. We visited the memorial village of Oradour sur Glane which is a very moving experience, sympathetically done and only about half an hour drive away. This is a site for a stopover or a longer stay perhaps of a few days.

Stayed at this site for 6 nights - some pitches directly overlook the lake but we chose one opposite which was a bit bigger. The site is in a lovely setting overlooking the lake and park area which is popular with locals. Facilities generally very good - showers, toilet and washing facilities always very clean. Washing machine available. Lovely pool but rather cool, with loungers. Has a cafe/bar but didn't use it so can't comment although it looked popular. Steep walk uphill to village with a few shops. A bar has opened this year just up the hill from the site which we used a couple of times. Site will not be accepting camping cheques after this season. Would use site again if in the area as it's not far from the motorway.

We stayed here overnight on our way down through France. We could pitch where we wanted and had an enormous pitch from where we could see the lake. The pool was not open as the weather had been so bad the repairs to it hadn't been finished yet which was disappointing as it looked as though it would be a pleasant place.
The shop and bar weren't open when we stopped. The sanitaires were fine and clean. Camping cheques accepted.

Having discovered lake swimming for the first time, I was keen to find one with a campsite on and this one fit the bill very well.
It is a 4 star site, but isn't actually very expensive, and I feel it got its stars for all its facilities rather than the quality of them. Frankly it isn't 4 star quality. There are 3 sanitary blocks, although when we were there towards the end of August one was shut. The block I tended to use - the one on the lower road near the lake - was heated, and a bit smelly as the Chemical toilet disposal place was inside it! The one shower I had was a huge disappointment - horrible in fact. There is a small pool with sunloungers arranged around it an on stepped levels to take advantage of the lovely views. There is small cafe that sells basic burgers and frites, and at reception they have small shop. You can order bread for the morning.
So would I go back? Absolutely! The lake is lovely to walk round and swim in. We spent two days just enjoying swimming, including our dog Toby, who spent his two days entertaining a small French boy! We had a HUGE pitch right beside one of the paths down, and could just go back and forth to the beach without even having to put on our flip-flops. In fact if we forgot to make sure Toby was tied up he took himself back to the beach again!
There are some pitches where you can see the lake, although these were very sloping. It was very quiet at night, and fantastic for star gazing. The views across the lake were lovely.
We chose this site as well because of its relative nearness to Limoges, as my daughter and husband wanted to visit. I preferred to stay with the dog in the lake!
The area is very pretty - very reminiscent of the North York Moors. I recommend a drive to the viaduc de Rocherolles. It took a bit of finding but was an awe inspiring sight. We had a lovely walk along the river that flows beneath it, and I believe you can actually walk across it under the rail track. There are a few supermarkets within driving distance - ask at the reception for details and opening hours. There is a restaurant in St Pardoux.

We found this site in camping cheque book and saw that it took the cheques up till October which is quite hard to find sites that do that. We always look for sites near water as we take are kayaks with us and this site is great for the lake. The pitches on site are large and well laid out on different levels with trees and bushes round to make it nice and private on your pitch. We stayed there for 9 nights (which is a record for us) that's how much we enjoyed it here. The lake is very nice with a nice walk round it and is great for kayak's, the only point I would make is that the lake is sectioned of for different activities so the top of the lake is a bit cut off with the power boat section being next door which is a shame because we had to put are kayaks back on the roof of the car and travel a couple of miles down the road to paddle the rest of the lake. The toilets was kept clean but are quite dated which didn't bother us at all. We will be back!
