Good potential for a site, but needs some real work. The location is great - 2 mins from Sherwood Pines, 5 from Rufford Park & Sherwood Forest. Other attractions very close by. Road running by site not too busy, and site sheltered from it - good pub 2 minutes walk away. So all good on that front.
However.
Pitches feel very cramped together. If it had it's full allocation of 5 vans and 10 tents it would feel very close together. Getting the van onto the pitch was a bit tricky.
Toilets are clean, but poor (portacabin style). One shower in the gents, one in ladies - the gents one running hot and cold as people turn taps on / flush loos. Also cramped - hard to take kids in and get them showered/dressed with you.
No pot washing facilities we could see - OK for us in caravan, but would be an issue if camping.
Facilities for waste water basic - difficult to lift a full carrier to empty waste water. And, apparently, no facilities for emptying chemical waste - just a standard drain to the sewerage with a sign saying 'no chemicals' (confusing extra sign saying hose pipe for toilets only).
If we wanted to come back to the area, and all other places were sold out, we maybe would come back - but only just.
Lastly - for this level of facilities it was expensive - £50 for a weekend (Fri & Sat) - stayed at better sites for less money.
Also - says it's a certified site, but we were never asked for any membership details at all.

Sherwood Forest Lodge is a C&CC CS site although when we stayed there was up to eight units at one time. The site is in a nice location with walks directly from it and is on the national cycle network. The toilets are in a portakabin. EHU is provided. The toilet emptying place is in a weird location, just feet from the windows of a small house that's rented out. For a CS it is expensive at £20 pn but it was handy for us despite the overcrowding and noise on the saturday night from some boozers who sat outside until gone 1am in the morning making a noise. If it wasn't handy we wouldn't use it which is such a pity because it has everything going for it. It's just the overcrowding that puts us off.
