Mature couple with large tent. Length of stay – 3 nights.
Not a peaceful site, with the main road running past and plenty of traffic noise, but making it handy for a short stopover. Some of the pitches were large, but had little shade or privacy. One of the toilet blocks was a little scruffy and it was only by chance that we found the much newer but not sign-posted and partially hidden block that was much smarter. Neither block had any loo roll or soap.
The best thing about Camping du Lac was the bar/restaurant, which is run by a very friendly and pleasant guy and which serves a limited range of tasty food. My favourite was the Saucisse de Toulouse.
Wi-Fi reception is limited to the little information hut near the pool.
There's a handy Carrefour Contact supermarché a couple of minutes drive on the road into Foix, which had everything we needed. Loads of restaurants in Foix.

The campsite is a few kilometres outside of Foix (there are 'bus stops although we didn't see a local 'bus during our stay!) This makes an excellent base for exploring the Ariege by car - lots of old towns, caves with prehistoric paintings (don't miss Niaux), Cathar castles &c. Foix itself is an interesting place with plenty of shops, restos and bars. There are two supermarkets a short way down the road from the camp and a sizeable organic grocers a little further.
The campsite it next to a 'lake' (just a widening of the River Ariege) for boating or lazing about and there is a small swimming pool; it has a bar/restaurant with limited but reasonably priced snacks/dinner/drinks. There is entertainment every night - commonly a boules tournament while we were there - including local entertainers and karaoke - we were only once disturbed by loud singing going on to midnight.
Plots are grassy and fairly spacious although I suspect large caravans might be squashed. Three toilet blocks kept clean &c but sometimes at the expense of being unavailable (being cleaned) first thing in the morning. Scheduling might be better!
All round, an excellent site for exploring the Ariege which itself tends to be overlooked.
