Had a very relaxing stay at Whatly Farm. Its more of an eco project than a campsite. Pip gave us a warm welcome in a chilled out way, and introduced us to Ronnie and Reggie the roosters who the godfathers of the organic chicken flock. If you are interested in eco / organic living, you can learn a lot here. Pip knows the comings and goings of all the wildlife from foxes to hummingbird moths. We saw a barn owl, and a pair of wild muntjack deer playing in the adjoining paddock.
If you want a relaxing time with a view and a sunset, this is the place. You can get fresh eggs and seasonal veg from the patch, but there's no shop on site. Wedmore village shop is excellent, opens at 5am even on a Sunday, and is about 1/2 a mile away.
Facilities are fine - one shower, a couple of loos (one is a composting loo in a converted horse trailer).
The only dropped score for me is there is no washing up sink but we had a plastic bowl so we got by.
If you have young kids, be aware there is an electric fence around the chickens (to keep foxy out) so you will have to stay alert.
If you don't want to camp there are 3 wooden cabins which my daughter plans to try out one day.
It's a long way from home but I would definitely stay again.

If you are looking for off-grid and back to nature camping, then this is the place to go. The owners could not be more accommodating or helpful during our stay. As described, a wealth of wildlife was on show and the views across to the Mendips were wonderful. The site is at the heart of a number of footpaths and bridleways which criss-cross the area, making it a great location for exploring the unique countryside of the Levels and the Mendips. Bath, Wells and Glastonbury are also close by and certainly all worth a visit. We had a really peaceful and restful break away and would happily recommend this site.

It is important to start this review by saying this campsite won't be for everyone. The facilities are very basic, currently consisting of a tap and a chemical disposal point.
However, to those for whom this is not an issue, this site is a jewel, the sparseness of the fittings serving only to preserve it untrammelled by the hordes.
Nestling on the edge of Wedmore, Whatly Farm enjoys both short walks to the local pubs (the George Inn is a fine place to spend time while camping the coldest April in living memory!) as well as a number of gorgeous ambles onto the Somerset Levels. When we arrived they kindly offered dug us a firepit, which provided us with the means for cooking and warmth.
The owners only started the site last year (2012) so it's in it's infancy. They have plans to develop it but for it remain resolutely off grid. There are areas that have been built up to provide sheltered pitches. A number of willow firepit areas have been planted and should provide a great place to sit in future.
Overall, we can wholeheartedly recommend this campsite.
Some notes on the ratings:
1) Site facilities: the facilities were completely acceptable as far as they went - 2/10 for being basic.
2) Child friendliness: marked highly as we have older kids that like to roam without fear of traffic or other interruptions - may be less suitable for smaller children (think wide open space with no playground).
