Lovely hideaway site. Friendly owner. Beautiful views and sunsets. Saw Thomas the Tank Engine running past the bottom of the field. Great to see the site is being developed. New trees, and electric hook up. Though not all the points were connected yet. We thought it a little pricey for a hideaway site with 1 toilet each male and female, with no soap or toilet paper. And 1 unisex shower at 20p for 3 minutes. My wife needed a second coin to wash her hair. Pleased we were not there the following weekend, when a rally was expected. We are camping and caravan club members but weren't asked to show our membership cards.

This is our second visit to this site. It has some very nice views and large skies with some stunning sunsets. Again we were left to find our own pitch and were not bothered by the owner, although there was only one other caravan on site. It was extremely peaceful, but the site does live up to it's name as it was quite breezy all weekend. The site is very close to the olde village of Castle Hedingham which has a very well preserved Norman Castle, and the Bell Pub in the village is excellent for food and beer.
When we saw the owner to pay him we mentioned that there was precious little loo paper and the soap had run out in both cubicles, although he said he would get this sorted, nothing happened. This is a shame as last time we were there the loos were clean and there was adequate loo paper and soap. Seems to have suffered from lack of attention. However, we would certainly return and hope this little detail will be resolved.

We were not sure how much to expect with Four Winds being a Certificated site but were certainly not disappointed. It was better than some full blown sites we have stayed on. A beautiful setting. Very accessible to many local features. Very peaceful and you are left alone to just get on and enjoy your stay but the owner is there and helpful should you need anything. We would definitely visit again if we were up that way.

Gem of a site. No hook up as yet but clean wc's and shower. Lovely views over farmland. Steam railway at bottom of field. Very helpful owner (Terry). Nothing too much trouble. Peace and quiet in a huge field. Plenty of walks and pubs not too far. Will be back. (if you are visiting the Colne Valley railway, although it runs adjacent to site it is a 10 minute drive round to the entrance, so a fair walk)

Relatively unknown C&CC Certificated Site in the area which deserves a higher profile.
Access to the site is easy, and clearly signposted. The site of approximately 7 acres slopes down to a hedge, beyond which is the river and a functional steam railway. Ground is sandy and somewhat hard so take rock pegs if you are pitching a tent or awning.
The farmer/owner, Terry Barrell, is friendly and helpful. He has plenty of time for his customers and is always easy to find if you have a question for him.
There is no electricity on the pitches yet, but that didn't detract from our short stay. The other facilities are excellent. A male and female WC along with a shower are contained in a block at the top of the site. Loos are spotless. The shower costs 20p for 3 minutes and the cubicle is fully enclosed in a relatively large room. This prevents your clothes getting soaked - I wish more sites did this!
There is plenty to do and see in the local area with pubs about 10 minutes walk away, a Chinese takeaway and some local shops. At the top of the hill is Hedingham Castle which is well worth a visit.
In summary - a friendly, roomy site in a beautiful area of North-East Essex.

This is a lovely site located in Castle Hedingham. The site is very spacious with beautiful views and backing onto the Colne Valley Steam railway which is great fun for the kids.
The owners were very welcoming and very helpful passing on leaflets to the numerous walks around and catered to our every need.
The town in 1/2 mile away and has a Co-op for shopping and the usual take-away's if you don't fancy cooking.
Toilet/shower block is very clean.
No Hook ups at the moment.
We thought this site was well worth a visit.

Lovely well kept site. There are shops withing 1/2 mile. A bus route that runs through the village. Hedingham Castle is about 15 mins walk and you can see steam trains running at the bottom of the field as Coln Valley Railway museum is about 2 miles away via the road. The toilet and shower facilities are clean and tidy. There are plenty of public footpaths near to the site. There are great views over the country side and plenty of space for children to run around safely. The only draw back for us was no electric points, the owner did say that he is hoping to put electric points in in the near future.
Would we go back yes.
