Just had a week on Thornhill Farm CL. The site is very easy access, with only about a mile off the A169 and no single track roads. It’s situated in a wonderful location on the North Yorkshire Moors, between Pickering and Whitby (both around 20 minutes by car).
The views from any of the five pitches are amazing, overlooking a valley of farms and moorland which the NYMR runs through. In autumn and winter you can get a glimpse of the trains and the rest of the year you can see the steam rising through the trees as they pass. Although it’s just lovely to listen to the trains, which can be heard all the way from leaving Goathland station and beyond.
This area is fantastic for walking with Goathland only 20 minutes away using the old railway path, or Grosmont is around 8 mile circular walk.
Last November we purchased a NYMR ultimate annual train ticket at a cost of £45. 00, using it you can travel unlimited anywhere between Pickering and Whitby, and it’s valid for 12 months. If you have a dog you just pay £3. 00 a day, for us this was fantastic as our dogs loves a good train ride. We didn’t touch our car from arriving, till the day we were coming home.
In the village there’s a pub, two hotels, shops and three tearooms including one at the railway station.
The site has 5 grass pitches on a gentle slope, with plans to make 2 of the pitches hardstanding later this year.
Facility’s include - EHU, 2 fresh water points, waste and recycling bins, elsan emptying point.
TV signal, O2 phone signal and Smarty data all worked well.
This is our favourite site due to the views, location, the wildlife (Owls). Charles the owner of the site has always been friendly, helpful and very welcoming. We plan to return to the site later this year and would highly recommend it to other.

Perfect location. Turn right from the camp site takes you to the abbey. Turn left takes you in to town. Each way is 5 mins if that.
The site is clean and tidy. Toilets and showers,
Lovely block and a sink to wash up and power point if needed where camping.
Hookups for camper vans.
The guys that run it are friendly and helpful.
Great prices too compared to some site and it’s a better location than most.
Highly recommend going there. I shall be returning.

The site is about 1. 5 mile outside Goathland by road, If walking and using the path the owner has made down the field to the old railway track, It’s about a mile and takes about 20 minutes
If you’re lucky you just get a glimpse of the top of the trains, although It was just nice to hear the trains and see the steam as it rises above the trees.
As for noise, you can hear the odd car or tractor pass the end of the farm track about 100 metres away, In the distance you can see the A169 although we didn’t have any noise from it.
The site is clean and tidy with 5 ehu's and a couple of water tap along the wall, A waste disposal point along with recycling point by the entrance.
Over the phone and email owner was very friendly, The fees are reasonable which you leave in post box by the entrance to the field.
We had a Very relaxing stay and would go again.

Nice and quiet, easy access with friendly greeting.
On a slight slope but not to bad.
A little bit off the beaten track, but if you like peace and quiet this is the site for you.

Beautiful views in a hilly field. Small site with electric hook ups. Only one toilet so advisable to be self contained.
Owner can be hard to contact. We got stuck so needed to be pulled out. He didn’t answer his phone but came to our rescue.
Great place if you would like some peace and quiet.

Idyllic, peaceful camp / caravan site. Just 1. 5m outside Goathland, yet feels miles from anywhere. Equidistant from Whitby and Pickering, which can both be reached in about 15 min.
Steam trains can be heard at bottom of the hill; maybe you can just see them, but you can see the steam and smoke as it rises above the hedges as they pass by.
As for noise, you can hear the A169 in the distance in the day, but this was drowned out by the whisper of the wind in the oaks. Other than this, silence.
Facilities on site are simple but adequate; decent hookup, good water pressure for filling aquarolls, very basic chemical disposal (a hole). But what more do you need? There is a toilet in a shed but this was closed on our visit 'due to the pandemic'.
Very relaxing stay and will come again.

Stayed a night here in our campervan with awning and dog. What a lovely spot. Field is at top of farm drive just of road in to Goathland. It is clean and tidy with several ehu's along wall, waste disposal point, water tap at end of field and a composting toilet. Owners were friendly and fees reasonable. Would be best to have own facilities if using site.
Star rating given for facilities only reflects there aren't many and child friendliness, well we didn't have any with us would be OK for tiny ones as nice and safe but older ones would need more to do.
Site is approx 15 minute walk via field/track footpath into Goathland, could be muddy in wet weather so boots recommended.
Can see steam train from field as it passes and lots of wildlife about. Fantastic stary sky on a clear night.
Would definitely recommend and revisit.

This is a new certified site just open this year and is a real gem. Wonderful location, right in the middle of the North Yorkshire Moors but only 15 mins walk to Goathland, for shops, pubs and the steam railway, along the disused railway track. The owner also has a field that is adjacent to the steam railway which you can use to get a really good view of the trains. Hook ups available but basic facilities otherwise - just tap, bin and composting toilet but it didn't matter to us as we have facilities on board, may be different if you are in a tent. However, I think that is part of the charm of these type of sites, really feels you are getting away from it all. Owner is very friendly, including leaving us some fresh farm eggs one day - very much appreciated. We will be back!
