I would like to say how great the team at the Charnwood Tavern are.
Had two meals there absolutely fantastic and sensibly priced thank you tommy the chef. We were made to feel very welcome. We hope that we can find the time to go there soon. Campsite is very peaceful.
A couple of problems with elson but it was soon dealt with. Thank you Caroline,

Follow up visit exactly 12 months after last visit ( see my 2015 review ). Well what a difference a year makes. Site itself was same as year before, grass a reasonable length and pitches dry with no mud or damage. Comparing to last year that's where it all ends. Arrived at dinner time and drove past an area of full to the top bins and about a dozen black bags of rubbish at entrance to site and pitched half way down on right hand site. Walked to pub to inform them of my arrival. On return to my van called in to shower/toilet block. It was awful, dirt, water all over the floor, no toilet rolls, soap, towels, hand driers, a bin in each was were both full to the top and didn't look like they had been emptied for a while. Mentioned to the manageress and she said they had a severe thunderstorm on friday night and ' water ' was coming up the drains in her kitchen and the touring shower block. Well things didn't improve in next 48 hours until another lady complained and by then 2 families in tents had left. Somebody came round and mopped the floor and put in a couple of toilet rolls. The whole site looks as if it isn't getting looked after and looking round could be put right with a large skip and somebody who cares about the place.

This was a spur of the moment follow the sun 5 day break. Tried to get in at a couple of the big sites but fully booked. Did a search and found the Charnwood tavern site with vacant pitches. Arrived at 2pm reported to pub to be told to pitch anywhere you want and the owner will collect the payment when he comes on site. Lovely, well kept hedged site and was assisted by the only other occupied pitch on the site. Shower block was clean and modern with 2 off each showers, sinks and toilets in both ladies and gents then came the strange part. No toilet rolls in the loos, no hand drier, no soap, only hot water at the sinks, no mirrors, no bins but when you took your own stuff no problem. The pub / restaurant is run separate to the caravan park and was very good, food well prepared and good size portions we ate there every night and had no complaints about any of it. After 3 days we met the site owner and had a good chat and we paid our very cheap £15 per night ( in August as well ) it is an extra £2-50p per night for an awning but he took a look at our small porch job and said I'm not charging for that. One of the problems with his laid back approach is a family with a motorhome, tent and 5 people stayed for 2 nights and did a 6am in the morning runner without paying and at these prices should be ashamed of themselves. An enjoyable stay but a bit more effort in the shower block required.

Great site. We weren't sure as we were driving to it as you go through a housing estate, but just a little way up the lane you end up at this lovely place, could be in the middle of the countryside. Well maintained flat field with hook ups all round, pretty old church opposite and lovely friendly pub doing meals adjacent but not too close if you want piece and quiet. Spotless, newly built showers and loos with an outside sink for washing up. Shop at the end of the lane and regular buses to Skegness. We walked the couple of miles out to the coast and into Skegness, shoes off along the beach, but there is a hard path all the way though, manageable with a wheelchair or pushchair. Taxi back about £7 and run 24 hours. We stayed two nights very quiet, I don't think they are advertising as the bigger sites along that bit of coast were packed, but they really should it's a gem, fabulous location and great value.

This a recently opened site on the outskirts of Skegness. My wife stayed there with two of our kids for 4 days and my eldest daughter stayed there with friends also for 4 days. The site is about 2 miles from the centre of Skegness and a bit less than a mile from the sea front.
The site comprises a large, flat, grassed paddock with electric hook up points all around the outside. The pitches are adequately spaced, but there was only one other person on the site whilst we were there. The site is located behind the Charnwood Tavern, but far enough away so that there is unlikely to be any noise disturbance. The pub is at the end of a road so there is no through traffic to disturb. The pub serves hot and cold meals and opens from lunch time each day. The wife had a Sunday Carvery and the kids had gammon, which they said was the best gammon they ever had. There is one toilet block that is newly built and comprises toilets and electric showers, which were always warm and best of all free. A frequent bus service goes from about a quarter of a mile away to Skegness. There is no playpark or anything for children.
The site has only just opened in the last year and the owner told me he had not advertised and was relying on word of mouth to build up business. I really liked the place and so did the family. You get the best of all worlds, a nice quiet site, close to a decent pub with meals but far enough away so you don't get disturbed (not that it is rowdy) and also close enough to easily get to the full Skegvegas experience
