Just got home after 3 idyllic nights at Barracks Farm! When we first pulled up we were a bit intimidated by a field for Static caravans but we were told to drive round the back to the camping field where peace, grass and a swing in a tree greeted us! :) kids; 4; 4 and 2 years loved it! It was safe, peaceful and away from busy roads :) we were looking for a campsite with a river/stream going through it and this may have a river but it doesn't go through camping field and this was probably a good thing given the age of the kids! It was super value; we paid £9 per night for 2 adults, 3 kids, a van, tent and car! Leaving us extra money for chips in the campers pub at Hulme End :)
The toilets were cold, clean and functional
But take your own toilet roll. This is not provided. The shower took 20p for 2 minutes and takes £1 too. The furthest shower was the hottest! The washing up room had cold water; there's a drinking water tap outside.
We got the car stuck in the mud when we first arrived but were pulled out by a tractor fairly quickly which the kids thought was brilliant!
Our hosts were warm and friendly and cheery which is so nice. Thanks so much! Kids are hounding us to return already and we definitely will.
During our trip we visited Thor's Cave (giant gruffalo cave according to kids) manifold cycle way. (Cool bike adventure), Hartington (sweeties from corner shop tucked away and lovely village store) and the playground at Alstonefield.
Thank-you! Xx

I stayed for one night, to check out a new tent and enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the site and area, sitting at night star watching with a glass of wine.
The toilet/shower block is basic, but functional, which is what matters to me.
The showers are by £1, or 20p, it cost me 40 for a quick shower, but not bad considering it cost me £5 a night for myself and car.
The shower is one with a timed button you press in, which saves water, but each press only lasts about 15 seconds and the payment timer is still ticking away when the water isn't running.
Don't expect luxury facilities here, but if you want somewhere peaceful and a good price, this is it.
Only a short walk to the River Dove, with a path into Hartington.

Stayed here for 2 nights over Bank Holiday weekend. It's a great location, nice walk to Hartington or Hulme End.
The toilets and showers are fairly basic and could do with an upgrade (the charges for the campsite are so low they could charge more and upgrade the facilities!). However, they were always clean. The owners are friendly and helpful.
My only gripe was (no reflection on the owners at all), dog owners were letting their dogs foul all over the field and not picking it up. Not good when there are young children running about. Child friendliness would have got 10 out of 10 but unfortunately irresponsible dog owners have made this lower. Our 3 year old loved the space to run around and the tree climbing.

Booked in the morning for one night. Site is in perfect location - facilities perfectly adequate but unfortunately from 4. 00pm until 8. 00pm a steady stream of what appeared to be D of E campers arrived (rough count of up to 150 teenagers). At this point we abandoned and left the site as the facilities would not have coped sufficiently well. A real shame as the peace and seclusion we had gone for was spoilt. Hopefully this was a one off occurrence - maybe check when booking.

1st time camping with family. Brilliant time had by all. Campsite is peaceful and picturesque. Secure for the kids to wander about. The walk to Hartington is fantastic with stunning scenery. The site is clean and after a night of intense rain it was well drained in the morning. Very reasonably priced with only a minimal charge for showers. Cant wait to have numerous breaks and holidays here in the future. Keep up the good work Jackson family, see you soon.

We have stayed here 3 times this Summer. A great campsite run by the incredibly friendly Jackson family.
All facilities are very clean and reasonable. Our boys a 7 and absolutely love it.
We will be going back next spring/ summer as we are making lots of happy family memories for the children and us.
If you do the beautiful walk to Hartington, I can recommend the Rook cafe for friendly service and great food.
Everyone on the site and in the surrounding area was friendly and helpful.
If you walk in any direction from the site you are met with stunning countryside. I real gem.

We have just spent 3 days at this camp site, it was quiet and very good value for money, there are toilets and showers on site, though hot water is paid for at a very minimal amount, the pitch price was ten pound for 2 adults and 2 children and a tent, there were no extra for our large tent. The site is very picturesque and there are some lovely walks, there is no electric hook up. There is a lovely little shop which sells most items and a village for all things and a cafe with free wifi at a 45 minute walk. The children loved this site and spent all days running around and climbing trees, dogs are allowed, I would highly recommend it to any family or hikers. There is a pub with amazing meals less than 10 mins walk away.
