Agree with previous reviews re lack of basic toilet and washing up facilities. For me though, that's a bit of a deal breaker. Main thing you need when camping is good clean water, somewhere to wash up, and decent well kept facilities. So for me it was a massive fail. We had a good time here, the river walks were ok, but the campsite itself was poor, with little or no thought from the owners on the campers, I'd have rather stayed in a campsite with a nice view actually by a river or on a hill, there is so much nice countryside here, I'd rather be camping right in it!
I was on a groupon deal for £6, which would have been a fair price. The campsite actually wants to charge £45 a night! For that I'd expect unbelievably high standard facilities, as this is the highest price I've come across, and was expecting to be blown away. It was very poor. Most of the other campers did not stay for their full stay, owner was never seen after arrival, and didn't seem to dedicate to actually running the campsite.
The 'indoor swimming pool' was more of a large whirlpool. The 'children's play area' was a potentially unsafe trampoline, and a homemade treehouse of unknown safety. The 'cafe and paddling pools' were quite a long way away (about a mile into Sheffield). The location was right on the edge of the city near a housing estate. While not a problem per se, it meant there were several noisy and speedy drivers using the road right next to where we were camping till relatively late at night (this could also be an issue for younger children as access to the road was easy and literally a few yards from the camping area), I guess it was handy there were some shops a couple of hundred yards away on the main road (coop, spa, chip chop etc), but security could possibly be an issue.
The campsite had no information on local walks or leaflets on activities etc. Also there is no way to get your car onto the campsite part (which is more like a garden), so carrying each item one by one is very tedious, luckily it was sunny while I was there. Again, a wheel barrow or similar would have improved things. As would some better bins, and the removal of the skip from the drive.
Sorry for such a negative review, the owner seemed very friendly, but having been a regular camper, all my life, I feel the need to warn people this is the most expensive, and the least well equipped I think I come across.

Management response: John,
As it states on our site, we have one toilet and one shower (we have two porta potys as well as a porta loo on site. We have a washing up sink outside. The washing up sink has clean water you can drink the water. We clean out facilities in the morning in the afternoon and at night while campers are not around. You paid for a groupon deal for 6 pounds. We are not a large campsite. As it states on the web site we are a holistic retreat we do camping and Massage, we also have the pool you can hire. We are not like any other campsite. We are a small family run business. We are not a large cooperate campsite. Do you speak on behalf of people whom stayed it’s none of your business on how many nights people. Some people may only have had one night stays and has nothing to do with you. The pool is a warm hydro pool we rent out to private higher, it is not a hot tub, and whorl pool. It’s the cheapest hydro pool in Sheffield. It’s recommended by the council, and NHS in Sheffield.
The Childs play area as it states in the t&Cs use at your own risk we are not responsible. The women from health and safety said the children’s play ground is fine. To be used by children, and said the trampoline is safe and we do not need a net. That people may use it. As we once again have stated at your own risk we are not responsible.
The Tree house isn’t for camper and there is no way to get up in it. As for the Café and paddling pools and play ground they are only a 10 minute walk down though the path. They are not a mile out into the woods. Unless you have taken the wrong path and wondered around in the woods for hours.
As for the issue with the road it is a public road we can’t stop traffic going down the road. The children don’t have access to the road unless their parents allow them to. We shut the gates at night; there is a barrier of forest around the front field and a gate. The only way they would get out into the road is if the parent s are not watching them and we are not responsible for their children the parents are.
We have camras around the land, and the gates get shut. As for the shops. They are only a 5 to 10 min walk up the lane. Not long at all.
It is not our responsibility to give information on walks it all in the online site. If you would have read the site you would know. Or if you would have asked we could have discussed it with you. IT states in the emails and on the web site we are not a drive on campsite. Most people are aware we are not a drive on campsite (for the safety of children and campers staying and most people have no issue carrying their things onto the field.
We have bins at the end of the dive where the trash goes. We have put bins around the area but people don’t pick up after themselves so we have put bins in the drive. Where people must walk their trash to the bins. Our bin is emptied every Tuesday from the company we have hired them from. As the council collets our regular trash and recycling.
It is a choice if people would like to come camping or not to a site they make their own decisions. We are not a regular campsite. We are a holistic healing center and we do camping as well. You won’t find anywhere else where there is a warm hydro pool, Spa, and campsite all in one place. We are a small family owned business and one of a kind. That is why women enjoy coming alone with children or parents and families enjoy coming. We have many people whom love coming because it is safe, and at home and not like anywhere else they have ever been and we have lots of returning customers.
We are expensive be if you had read your email you would know that we do run deals with discounts and have member ships in which you get discounts off of everything.
By health and safety we can put 50 people on site with one shower and one toilet. We do not though because we like to keep it to a small group on the field. As well as keep it manageable.
We thank you for your opinon but people can come if they wish and choose for themselves it is free choice and free will.
We do advise calling before you come if you have any questions and reading out website as well. |

Stayed at the campsite it was very relaxed, great for the kids because it had a play area which kept them occupied. Was very busy with upto 26 people and only 1 toilet and no washing up area but was told that they were working on setting up a wash area and they really need more toilets, but we would definitely go again even though we had to queue. We got a groupon offer so couldn't moan but wouldn't pay the full price
|
Management response: We now have two porta potys and a porta loo as well as a washing up area. As well as the toilet in the cabin. And we are still working on setting up the other toilets and showers we hope to have them in very soon. We now have memberships as well as offers with voucher companies. We hope to see you again soon! |

I visited this site with a friend for a quick cheap overnight stay (we bought a groupon for £6). This is a small site attached to a spa offering treatments situated in the beautiful Rivelin Valley. There is a small children's play area and a trampoline. There is also a covered area for barbeques and a large fire pit. There are no washing up facilities which we found a bit challenging and the only tap available is in the one toilet. We didn't use the shower as there always seemed to be a queue but we didn't hear any complaints so I assume that it was ok.
Rivelin park is within walking distance and Sheffield City centre is a very short drive away.
There are a few improvements that could be made, namely a couple of taps in the camping field and the addition of more toilets and showers but I'm not put off and would definitely return.

Management response: We are working on putting more toilet and showers in, we now have two porta loos in the field and we have a porta loo by the pool cabin. We now have a washing up sink as well. |

This is a small and intimate site with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. On arrival we were a little unsure because it was not really what we expected (we usually camp in remote fields where you are left to your own devices!) This campsite was a small grassed area literally next to the owners house. The owner was very friendly and came out to greet us and showed us the facilities and pointed us to a spot where we could pitch our tent. The site is home to a spa offering healing therapies and treatments. It is possible to book treatments and also pay to use the indoor pool.
There were several other families camping and the site was very busy. It is a good site for families with children because there is a small playarea and trampoline. There was a very communal atmosphere and in the centre of the field there was a large area where you could light an open fire.
The location of the site is very unusual and quite surprising in that it is literally on the edge of Sheffield City. However, it was very quiet and secluded and was within a few miles of the Peak District. It is an ideal base for visiting places around Sheffield. We took a trip to Brodsworth Hall and Gardens and Conisbrough Castle during our stay.
The only downside of this site was that there was only 1 toilet and 1 shower for the whole site. Luckily we managed to get in there first before everyone else got up! The shower was good but you do need to get up by 8am and get down there if you want to avoid queuing!
We really enjoyed our time camping at Medi Spa and would highly recommend it to others. If first appearances make you feel a little uncertain, do not be put off because this turned out to be a great little site.
