Disappointed to be honest. Beautiful place, amazing views and very rural and peaceful location but the site isn't what it's sold as. An appearance in the Tiny campsites book and UK campsites stating that there were only 10 pitches led us to think it would be a large field with plenty of space between pitches. How wrong were we!
Bad points. We counted 25 tents crammed so closely together that the tent next to us was 2 metres maximum away. The whole perimeter of the field was jam packed with tents. 25 tents meant c 70 or so people. The facilities were: 1 compost loo with no sink for handwashing, there was a field tap about 10m away, 1 garden toilet with no hand-wash facility at all, and a wet room with a shower, toilet and sink. This was only open between 8am and 9pm. In addition there was 1 other shower and 1 sink for washing up. For 25 tents this just wasn't enough.
Just 2 toilets after 9pm and all night, and the lack of handwashing in the toilets wasn't the best. The facilities were also the furthest we'd ever been away on any campsite. Across the field, up the hill through the orchard, round and through the cottage garden. A schlep!
The field was on a quite steep incline and although we managed to get one of the flat pitches at the bottom, most people didn't.
The good points! The view, and the other campers who were all quiet at night and respectful. Think a few others were also disappointed at the sardine-like conditions!
It's quite possible that this is a fabulous place if there are less than 10 tents, as the advertising blurb gives the impression there is, but 25 tents is not a tiny campsite in my mind, although the facilities were clearly designed for just such a thing!
Local area was lovely, walked in to Hay on wye, canoed down the river and enjoyed lots of good food. Also had awesome weather which kind of saved the day!

A charming location, a small friendly site with excellent facilities run by delightful hosts who make running a camp site look easy.
If only all campsites could be like this.
The location is rural, there are no shops or a village pub within strolling distance but with such a great view, sitting on the site watching the sun go down is probably the best option.

Just arrived home from a 1 night stay at this fantastic campsite. We arrived at the site to find breathtaking views over the local couuntryside, total peace and quiet with plenty of room to choose our tent pitch. Despite the very blustery weather we found adequate shelter next to a hedge at the top of the field, on a slight slope but nothing problematic. We were greeted at the cottage by Veronique who was extremely welcoming and gave us a brief tour of the essentials. Throughout our stay the hosts were friendly, relaxed and eager to cater for any need we had. We hired a fire pit and bought wood at a very reasonable price. Although a small campsite with only 2 showers we never had to wait our turn and all facilities were clean, with the showers hot and powerful. The compost toilet was a novelty, clean and not whiffy at all. All visitors, arty or not, should visit the gallery for a cup of tea (and a slice of walnut cake which my boyfriend particularly enjoyed) to meet the resident friendly pooch and soak up the relaxing atmosphere and look at Veronique's beautiful work. It was lovely to be in such a peaceful environment with chickens and sheep to welcome us in the morning. My only regret is not staying longer. This would definitely be my first port of call should we camp in the area again, can't fault it! Thanks Tim and Veronique for a lovely stay

Very good camp site with many positives. The camp site is located on a hill side commanding great views over the Wye Valley about 3 miles from Hay-on-Wye. Tent pitches at the bottom of the field are flatter than those in the upper part of the field (but are further from facilities).
The site is well run by friendly hosts Tim and Veronique on 'eco-principles'.
The facilities on site include a campers’ kitchen with micro-wave oven, kettle and dish-washing sink (excellent on wet days), compost and flushing loos and shower/washroom. Limited local produce (eggs, honey etc. ) can be bought on site.
On balance we considered the site to be very good and gave a feeling of being ‘back to nature’.

We arrived at what looked like a modest cottage set at the top of a narrow road. We were then greeted by one of the politest men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He proceeded to give us a tour of the cottage, grounds and facilities. The cottage itself, whilst appearing to be modest, opened up at the back into beautifully designed unique architectural master piece. Inside the cottage, there was a lovely art studio, full of fine art works. Just passed the studio there was a shower wash room and toilet, all very clean and very good working standard. In the cottages garden there was another very clean flushing toilet. Just outside the main building there was a large area of grass which could be used as a guest car park. Also on the large area of grass stood a wood shed, in which was a shop where you can purchase locally sourced goods, fire wood, apple juices, jams, eggs and more. The shop was largely unmanned, and relied on the honesty of the customer as there was a tin in which you would leave coin to the sum of goods purchased. At the end of the car parking area was yet another building. At the rear of this building was a shower and wash room, again very clean. The front of this building was a kitchen for guests. In this kitchen there was a sink, microwave, kettle and fridge as well as dinning table, chairs a sofa and assorted games and books to keep the little ones entertained. On the back wall of the kitchen area there is a OS map with local walking routes on one of which is a 2 hour round trip to Hay on Wye town and back. Just outside the kitchen area is a bee farm and chicken coup, the chickens are free ranged so expect a friendly visit from them time to time. We were then taken to the top of a hill where we were shown the composting toilet, which was again clean and tidy. As we were walked down the hill to the site we would be pitching up our cosy 2 man tent, the farm setting opened up to an absolutely breathtaking view, one of my favourites by far for a campsite. We spent two nights and it was fantastic, a must visit for anyone thinking of visiting the area. Hay on wye town was gorgeous full of polite people with plenty to do and see.

Just returned from ten nights at Walkers Cottage Camping and we really enjoyed our stay. The scenery is beautiful, of which there is a great view as the campsite is located on a hill. The campsite was very clean as were the toilets and shower and wash facilities. It has a compost toilet (which is a great idea) as well as flush toilets. The site is very eco friendly which is something that is close to our hearts. The owners are lovely people and will always stop to have a chat but wont get in your way as they are very busy running the business. You can buy fresh free range eggs that have been laid by the owners chickens that roam free on site. They also make their own jam from fresh produce on site which is chemical free and is delicious! They also have their own sheep who greet you and like to be acknowledged! The local towns are lovely particularly Hay-on-Wye which is a book lovers dream place to visit. You can also visit the beautiful Brecon Beacons nearby. Overall, we enjoyed our stay immensely.

Amazing location, really peaceful. The views are incredible. Very basic site which is what we like. We were there on our own for the first three nights but there is plenty of room regardless, unmarked pitches.
Shower (one on site for 24 hour use and one in gallery which is open during the day), very clean, good water flow. Composting toilet, barn for washing up with fridge, kettle, microwave and sofa as well as dining table, chairs, bits of crockery.
I camped with my parents as a child and have been camping for 25 years as an adult and think that this is one of the nicest places I have stayed. Ratings are always subjective though, we love basic camping, our daughter loves open spaces and creates her own adventures, etc. Great for us but wouldn't be so great if you didn't like basic camping.

Amazing place. Set amonngst meadow and spectacular views. Quiet eco site, shower, flush loo, compost loo, campers kitchen/games colouring for kids. Kettle, microwave sink to wash-up in barn. Artist gallery and tea gardens. Farm shop on site selling bread, cakes, milk and home reared hens eggs. Just returned from an amazing camping experience - lovely owners, inspiring views. Gardens and facilities lovely. Very clean and cared for. Eco site; shower gels etc provided as they must be environmentally friendly for the soakaway (we use those anyway so ok to use our own). Not easy to find so print off directions, but convenient for Hay on Wye and touring area. Access was very muddy, (wellies a must) which was difficult, but worth it for the super quiet site. Lovely owners and the gallery was amazing. Going back in the summer!
