Nice, quiet location by lake. Friendly welcome.

Facilities adequate and clean but site clearly a work in progress and pretty basic at the moment.

No complaints, though.

Probably not somewhere we might stay again but a useful mid-route point for travelling.

We booked this campsite last minute for a couple of days before the August bank holiday as it was one of very few that still had availability in the area. I went with my boyfriend and my 11-year-old son, in a large tent. It's a fairly small site with only one small field and an area of hard standings for caravans but most of it is on a slope meaning that people tended to camp on the only flat bit at the top corner, leaving the rest of the field empty. For the two days we were there initially we were the only unit on the field apart from one campervan (who had engine trouble and couldn't go anywhere) and it was extremely quiet and tranquil.

Camp fires are allowed provided you rent the fire pits and buy the wood from the friendly owner, who was very knowledgeable and liked to chat.

Bathroom facilities were somewhat limited, with just one toilet cubicle and one shower cubicle in each with one sink for washing and shaving etc, but they were kept clean. There is the usual rubbish disposal, standing water pipes and a covered hut with a sink for washing up, and plenty of free hot water and the shower was a proper shower, not the pushbutton type.

There is a man-made fishing lake on the site, for which a permit is needed, but we didn't make use of the fishing so can't comment further, but it was very picturesque.

Electric hook-up is free as the power is provided by an on-site wind turbine built by the owner, but this is very much on a first come first served basis as there were only about four sockets on the hook-up point, and only low voltage electrical items are allowed, so no toasters/kettles/electric cookers etc.

There is a pub about a mile from the site up the hill which we were told is quite good, but we did not go there but it looked well patronised.

As the site is quite a way inland it is about a half-hour drive to the nearest beaches on the Gower. The nearest town is Llandeilo where you can get most things you need, or Ammanford further south where most of the larger shops can be found.

This site allows groups, but as I imagined it would generally just be groups of friends there for the fishing it didn't ring any alarm bells. However, as the weather was so good we decided to stay an extra night which was the Friday of the August bank holiday weekend. This turned out to be a mistake, as by the time we got back from a day at the beach, the small flat corner of the campsite was jam-packed with tents, with everyone camping close together to take advantage of the electric hook-up point, and the relative flatness of that corner of the field, leaving the rest of the field untouched. As a result the site became much noisier to the extent that my sleep was disturbed.

I would go back there again but not during a busy period. I think if the site was actually much flatter all the noise and issues could have been avoided as everybody would have been spaced much further apart. I think if the site accepted fewer bookings it would make life easier for the other campers as the actual useable camping space is severely restricted. Having said that, it was actually a lovely site and a good location with stunning views.

Spent several days in July at this campsite, thoroughly enjoyed.

The fishing there was very good, plenty of carp not large but plenty of them.

The owner was very pleasant and helpful, there were walks in the area for my wife whilst I was fishing, and very peaceful in the evenings

The toilets and facilities were kept clean with water and electricity on hand

All in all a very pleasant weekend.
