This site has cabins to rent as well as gite cottages and b& b rooms.
We are a family of four with two daughters aged 9 and 7 and we camped here for two nights on the way back to calais.
For me, this is what French camping is all about: a country site with basic, but high quality and clean facilities, in beautiful natural surroundings with charming and welcoming hosts. On top of this the hosts make children super welcome. There is a sand pit to play in, some play equipment, but best of all there are the animals and the children are encouraged to interact with them. They have chickens, geese, quail, rabbits and a donkey. At 9 am every morning they ring a bell and the children gather (about 20 of them when we were there). He then hands each of them a small container and fills them up with garden scraps and other suitable leftovers and the children go around the animals in turn and feed them, ending with the ducks on the pond. It really is a delight to see.
There are woodland paths to explore too. A bantam chicken or two wandered the site with her large and precious brood. So charming!
Because of the B&B, they offer evening meals with the family too. Even though we were camping we opted for that as well. It cost 12 Euro for adults and 6. 50 for children. There are three course and wine and cheese. Frederic is a good cook and serves generous portions. We were made to feel very welcome by him and his family at their table.
The site had one block of facilities including (I think) two toilets, four showers, two hand wash sinks and two pots and pans sinks. All functioned very well and were clean. There were plenty of level places to pitch and there was the option of electrical hook up. There was a washing machine available.
Frederic sold garden produce and eggs. There may have been other things available too.
I saw that pony riding for children was offered.
About 20 minutes away you will find Lac du Der Chantecoq, which is a large lake (48 square km) with lots of fun things to do. Some beaches have been made with imported sand which we all really really enjoyed as the water was so warm and safe from currents.
With all these positives, there must be some negatives. The main ones are that it is a bit off the beaten track, and the other is that the Mosquitos came out in the evening, but then you get them everywhere.
When we stayed the site was nearly 100% occupied by Dutch campers. I understand that the site is listed in a Dutch publication. They were all very friendly and readily greeted us in English. If we are passing near by I will definitely stay again.
The owner does not speak much English, but his wife is fluent. Both of them are utterly charming, welcoming and accommodating.
Please visit and up the local British population.
