My fiancee and I initially booked to stay here for 4 nights but after the first full day we extended it to 9 nights. I wish we could have stayed longer! The owners were very welcoming (the lady owner speaks excellent English). It is impossible to do the site justice in words but I will do my best.
The site is located approx 1 mile along a track outside the village of Vammen which is approx 10 miles north-east of Viborg. Vammen has a Spar shop which is great for the essentials and Viborg ( a very pretty town) has a range of supermarkets.
The site is gently sloping in a beautiful position overlooking Vammen Lake. The pitches are large and many are hedged, they have electrical hook-up and there is a shower & toilet block in a converted barn. There is also an undercover communal cooking and washing up area. One of the best parts of the site is the other converted barn which houses a communal dining / lounge area. This is fantastic and is open during the day and in the evening there are 'open microphone' folk music sessions. Whilst we were there there were fantastic musicians from Holland, Germany and Denmark including a violinist from the Danish national orchestra. Songs and music ranged from sublime classical music to Irish and Scottish folk music to songs for children including Puff the Magic Draqon.
There was only one other English couple there (they had 2 children aged 8 and 10) but the other visitors, Germans, Dutch and Danish were very friendly.
One of my favourite things about the site was the fresh bread rolls that could be ordered. Harm-Wulf the site owner makes these and sounds his hunting horn when these are ready at around 8. 30am!
We had a fantastic and truly memorable time here and we have booked to return in July 2014 for 14 nights. I am almost hesitant to say how lovely the surrounding area was as it was also exceptionally quiet. Had this site and area been in England it would be over-run with tourists. As it was the lake (approx 5 miles long) was truly unspoilt. We hired a canoe from the site for a day and paddled ot on the lake. We also took our own bikes and enjoyed many cycle rides on the exceptionally quiet local roads, the site owners having lent us a map.
