We stayed here for four nights to visit Arcachon (very busy and disappointing) and also the Dune de Pilat (also very busy but well worth it). The site is two thirds statics - all in a separate section to the touring pitches. There was only one 'sanitaire' open and this was open to the elements but had plenty of hot water. Unfortunately cleaning amounted to a quick spray over with those pipe and a mop over the floor - showers were ok but the toilets left much to be desired - didn't bother os as we use the van loo anyway. Nice pool and slides were open but that was all as far as facilities were concerned. Touring section had just two units on it. Pitches are large, for example ours was 12m x 12m and hedged on three sides - most pitches were at least as big. Electric is old-fashioned but it works and you have access to the trips should you overload. The reception seemed unsure as to the ampage (6 peut-être 9?). There doesn't seem to be a chemical toilet point - I was directed to the toilets.

Access to the lake is via a gate at the end of the site.

Cost here out of season is a BIG attraction - 5 euros per person per night plus electric and tax so 13. 90euros per night. Very pleasant and friendly staff and people on site in the statics. We'd stay again.

The area was surprisingly busy early May.

We spent 6 nights here and will definitely return. Facilities were good, great showers with hot water. Our visit was too early for all the facilities to be open but with the town so close for shopping this was ok. There was no facility for freezing ice blocks for our cool box but we discovered that the supermarket in the town sold blocks of ice. The pool was heated and a good size. Pitches were a good size and fully grassed. The pitches at the 'posh' campsite next door were tucked away in a corner and covered in gravel with not a blade of grass in site. At 10 euros a night Camping Le Langeot was an amazing bargain. The receptionist, Benedict, was lovely and extremely helpful.

This area is one of France's best-kept secrets. Away from the sea beaches most holiday-makers are French, even the Dutch are in the minority. We have visited this campsite 3 times over 20-odd years and it gets better and better, but we worry that there are now so few camping units around and sites like this are filling up with rented mobile homes.

Facilities are fine, of the less-luxurious variety without washbasin cabins but clean with plenty of hot water and good showers. The restaurant puts on regular entertainments in high season and we had excellent pizzas, and Moules Frites to die for (with second helpings and cabaret!). The pool is lovely with a good slide, one of the nicest we've been to. The basic on-site shop is useful, with daily fresh bread, or you can use the Petite Casino at the site next door and there is a huge supermarket and good food shops in the village of Sanguinet. Pitches are big, some with shade - sadly many of the huge pine trees have been lost in the area after a great storm a few years ago. There were lots of empty pitches. We think the site is a lot nicer than the very expensive one next door (where we have stayed a couple of times) and over 10 Euros cheaper than any of the others round the lake here. Almost everyone on site was French but the reception speak English well.

The best thing of all is the nearby fresh-water lake with its beautiful white sandy beaches, with trees for shade and lovely swimming. We cycled, but you can walk in about 10 minutes or drive in 5 minutes to a selection of different beaches with ample free parking. There is a lovely cycle track along the lakeside. Over the other side of the lake you pay to park and the beaches are not nearly so nice.

The sea beaches near here are huge and long and used for the World Surfing championships if you like that sort of thing (we don't). Biscarosse Plage is a very hectic resort with loads of shops and eateries and entertainment (and the best pizzas we have EVER had!). Arcachon is a lovely resort with some wonderful architecture in the Winter Resort section, and the whole Arcachon basin is fascinating (especially if you like oysters!) The Dune du Pilat, Europe's largest sand-dune, is unmissable, especially at sunset (it may be too hot to walk up it in the heat of the day).

We have long used Sanguinet as our 'favourite place' password! Please visit this site and help keep camping facilities available. A bit of paradise. Get to see the local Stilt Dancers (Echassiers) if you possible can.
