Such a warm welcome at a quiet spot with beautiful views.
Highly recommend a stay if you’re in the area.
The only reason it’s not a 10 is because we didn’t find it too easily - perhaps a tall signage would help on the country lane?

Very helpful and friendly owners, easy access, fabulous views, most definitely will stay again, the dog says very soon please I can't wait for more of those great walks on site !
Altogether a great find, lots to see and do great walking and lots of local recent history and information, easy motorway access for visits to NT sites and places of interest, plenty of access to shops for a large motorhome.

If all you want is peace and quiet with views over the rolling Derbyshire hills, maybe just the sound of some horses in the background, then Ilex Farm is definitely for you.
Lovely location about a mile from Clay Cross. Hardstanding perfectly adequate for what we needed and long electric lead provided. Fresh & grey water + CWD handily placed next to access road. Own san essential. Some lovely walks direct from the site and no problem exercising dogs around the campsite & farm fields.
Would be handily placed if you wanted to go out.
Owners & all staff very friendly & helpful.

We went here for the bank holiday (3 nights), it is a nice site and has flat pitches on the tiers and a nice view.
This is not a good site if you are not very fit as you have to go up the slope to get water and empty your toilet and also 2 gates to open when you go out and come back. We didn't see any sign for the site and the one they have got is on the wall set back from the road and it is not easy to turn round if you miss it.
Our other bug bare with this site is that it says on their website it's £14 a night, when my brother-in-law had gone through all the booking details he was then told on a bank holiday it is £18 if we had booked we wouldn't have gone on principal you don't get anything extra when all said and done and they had free spaces.
It's not far from clay cross which has all the amenities you may need.

We had a 6 night stay last week on this lovely quiet, rural site - for 4 nights it was just us ! The owners were really friendly and welcoming. We have been camping for many years now and this is the first site where we were given some local info on arrival.
We don't use EHU, so the ice pack freezing was really helpful for us. There is running water and a chemical toilet facility - basic facilities which is just how we like it as we find these sites much less busy and nicer ! The terracing of the site is great - with lovely planting between the terraces and lots of space for football, swing ball etc.
The area is lovely with lots to do and see and we ran out of time to do everything so hope to go back.
Previous reviews talked about feeling feeling relaxed and secure while staying there and that was very much how it felt thanks to the warm hospitality of the owners.

We just spent 6 nights at this lovely site, although we had only booked for 4. Carolyn and Stephen, the owners, are very friendly and welcoming and provided us with leaflets and information about both the local area and further afield, all of which was so useful.
The site is very well maintained, the drinking water tap, waste water point and chemical disposal points were clearly signed, as were the bins for recycling and non recycling. We have four dogs and whilst we would take them off site for long walks, we were allowed to exercise them on site (on leads, and picking up after them of course) first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
The site is very peaceful and in a lovely location with country views and horses in the paddocks. There are walks all around the area, although we tended to explore further afield by day as this was our first stay in Derbyshire and we wanted to see as much of the county as possible. It is very easy to get to the various attractions, and there is a Tesco garage and supermarket in nearby Clay Cross which we found useful.
This is how CLs should be run and we hope to return in the not too distant future.

This is a wonderfully peaceful site in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside. The site is on a slope that has been modified to provide 3 large, flat grassy terraces and there’s a hardstanding at the top for a couple of motorhomes. There are magnificent views across the valley to Clay Cross, the nearest town, about a mile away. The owners, Carolyn and Stephen, were very welcoming and helpful, showing us where everything was (it’s all well signed and easy to find) and making sure we were settled.
It’s one of those places that makes you feel very relaxed and secure, so much so that you could easily spend your entire stay just chilling out on site with only the odd dash to the nearby supermarket for supplies. However, there are a number of good places to visit within a half hour’s drive, such as Hardwick Hall, Chatsworth House and Bolsover Castle, all of which are well worth a look.
This is definitely one site that we’ll be coming back to when we just want to get away from it all.

Lovely little site, peaceful, clean. No toilet or shower block but we had our own so not a problem for us. 16amp hook-up. Good area for walking the dogs, not too far for visiting chesterfield. Plenty of fast food outlets in clay cross. Owners were very pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be going back.
