We stayed at the overflow for Short Lake which was just beneath the White Horse. I was happy with it as I like festival style camping - there was no shop on site and you could pitch where you wanted so it was very informal and much better than a regimented site.
Compost loos were fine and solar showers were really hot although there were big queues in the evening.
Very windy despite being in the valley - my gazebo blew away.
No extra charge for gazebo or pup tents and campfires allowed so a very relaxed experience.

Shortlake Farm charged us £51 per night for three adults over the August BHW. This is a temporary site so only had long drop composting toilet facilities, if you're happy using one of these I guess they were OK but ran out of toilet paper everyday and the only hot water hand washing facility was at the washing up station just down the field so if the two sinks were being used you weren't able to wash your hands (there was a cold water hosepipe) - so don't forget to take hand sanitizer!
Also a lot of the time there wasn't any hot water at W-U sinks. Showers were solar powered and although I didn't use one my fellow campers said they were good.
If you wanted to refreeze your freezer blocks they wanted to charge 50p each and you didn't get your original one back again - didn't bother with this as didn't want someone else's blocks that might have been next to raw chicken etc.
They wasn't any effort to ensure that campers respected the rules regarding late night noise and there were also some vehicles being driven much too fast around the field.
Good points: well stocked shop, fairly easy walk to beach and campfires allowed on the ground. I definitely won't use this campsite again as there are plenty more that offer much better facilities and don't charge anywhere near as much.

Just returned from 4 days, staying at Shortlake Farm, which is Eweleaze's smaller sister site.
The site itself consists of 2 uneven (even hilly) fields all with great views out to sea. On a cliff top so expect it to be windy. And cold! Free to pitch where suits and no limitation on tent size or number. Plenty of room not to encroach on others - although that didn't stop the inconsiderate ladies with their kids who pitched in touching distance of us. You know who you are!
Facilities are basic but work well. Hot showers, in wooden cubicles that are cleaner than most other sites I've stayed at - probably as these are only temporarily erected for the season. The compost toilets were better than I'd expected. Far better than most public lavs, but not something I'd rush back for! Always plenty of toilet paper - all hours - and kept very clean. No hand-washing in the immediate vicinity - but rather a stroll away. I took sanitiser hand gel too.
Hot water washing up facilities are dotted around the site perimeter.
Didn't use on-site catering so can't comment. And absolutely no roaming animals - which suited me.
Camp fires are encouraged.
Most campers were family groups but not all.
Picture a site with a number of dahling kids sporting mini-Boden outfits and mummies in their newly purchased Hunters 'at one with nature under the stars, sweetie' - and you've got the scene

We are a family of 3 (two adults and one six year old) plus a dog, and have recently returned from a stay at Shortlake Farm.
The site is comprised of several fields, and campers are allowed to pitch up wherever they wish.
Toilets are located at regular intervals around the edge of the fields, and are compost toilets - a bit smelly, but do the job well. Hand washing facilities are not located beside the toilets, but are not too far away (a good idea to bring some hand sanitiser with you).
The shower block runs off solar heating, so it is a bit hit and miss as to whether you get a hot or cold shower! As an early riser I missed the queues and got a hot shower one morning (although lukewarm the next). Later in the morning the showers became very busy, and a notice stated that during peak times they were running cold.
No electric hook ups, no children's playground - although there is plenty of room to run around, fly kites etc. It was possible to buy hay bales to place around your tent, and lots of children seemed to enjoy playing on those. The website stated that there were animals for the children to handle/feed, however there was no sign of this whilst we visited.
Campfires are popular here, with wood available from the on site shop. There is nearby woodland to search for kindling, however these do get very busy, and many people seemed to be cutting/pulling branches from living trees for their fires.
Dogs are welcomed, and it was nice to feel that we didn't have to keep our dog on a lead at all times (we kept an eye on him, of course, as did other dog owners with their dogs).
The location of the site is very nice - with wonderful sea views, and direct access to the south west coastal path. Weymouth is a 4 mile walk away, and there is access to a nice pebble beach about 10 mins walk away. The Smugglers Inn at Osmington Mills is a pleasant 30 minute walk away, and serves food, tea and coffee.
The shop is well stocked, selling groceries, gas, wood, toys/gifts. However, when we looked at the fresh fruit and veg on offer we found much of it to be past it's best, some of it even mouldy (and not removed when we returned the next day). Weymouth is a short drive away, and has supermarkets on the outskirts for bigger grocery shops.
The site has a pizza van for those wishing to give the cooking a miss.
Overall this is a nice site with a relaxed atmosphere, however, it very much depends on who else is staying. Large groups are welcome, and can become very rowdy/noisy. In fact we ended our stay early as we became fed up with a large family group making so much noise well into the early hours. We were not the only ones who felt this way.
I feel this has the potential to be a very good site, and it was a shame our stay was spoilt due to the behaviour of others.

Me and several friends stayed at Shortlake over the August bank holiday for a few days and were not disappointed! This is a basic campsite (with the greatest respect) which is exactly what we like! A very good sized site with plenty of room for everyone. A small shop on site is again basic but will cater for the essentials. Not too much of a problem if you need more as shops/supermarkets are in easy driving distance. Showers on site can get busy but are always warm and maintained. Coastal views are stunning and there is easy access to the Southwest Coastal Path (some very stunning trekking to those who haven't experienced the area)! If you fancy a good pub visit, The Smugglers Inn is an absolute must! At only a 15-20 minute walk, you will not be disappointed! Were very relaxed the whole time we were there and the guys already want to go back next year-it's just a great shame that the site is only open during August! Highly recommend Shortlake Farm to anybody!
