This site is quite large and was quiet during our stay. It is right next to a small sandy shelly beach with a larger beach about 5-10 minute walk along the coast path. At low tide you can cross to Ile Madame and you can walk/run/cycle the whole way round the island. From the site this was just under 4 miles in total.
The facilities are a little basic with the toilets being individual cubicles at the side of the block with no toilets seats, toilet paper or handwashing facilities, however were reasonably clean and had mesh at the top and bottom of the door to prevent wildlife getting in. The showers are communal and inside the block, pick one that has a shower curtain to prevent the water running all the way out of the cubicle and the shower block!
The pitches appeared to all be spacious and we were able to choose where to pitch. The only downside was a road backs on to some of the pitches so they aren’t very private.

A reasonably priced municipal site, with a pool (reserved for campers), beside the sea, in a lovely, unspoilt fishing village- this was a real find for us. In fact, I think I know why I'm the first to review the site on here - everyone else who's been is trying to keep it a secret!
Port Des Barques is a centre for mussels and oysters which you can buy very cheaply from stalls in the village. The fishermen use very distinctive fishing platforms which they have painted bright colours.
There is an is an island, Ille madame, 1km out in the bay, which you can walk to at low tide. It's a lovely walk and a pleasant place to spend a couple of hours.
The swimming pool is located at the back of the campsite, its a fine size and there's a life guard on duty all day who insures that everyone can enjoy the pool as he stops children from doing running dives in on top of people in the pool.
The playground is beside the pool, its's an average size. There's also a games room where there are some low key animations in the evenings- we didn't get to partake in any of these.
There was a snack bar at the pool, which looked nice but wasn't open for some reason, even though we were here in the middle of August. There was a pizzeria on site though, we got a couple of take out pizzas one evening- very nice.
I loved the location of this site. The beach was a five minute walk along a coastal path. Because it's tidal, the beach is a sort of pool, where they have built a wall to keep water in. Very pleasant for swimming.
There's a old fort called Bruage about 10km away- well worth a visit, you can walk on the ramparts (mind the children- there's a lack of fencing up there) or browse in the craft shops or eat in the restaurants and cafes.
Rochefort is 15km in the other direction- a great day out in a lovely old sea port. We also visited Ille D'Oleron ( no toll!) where there's a huge beach, we got there about 11am to get a decent car parking space and to avoid the traffic congestion.
If you're looking for a campsite to stay for a week or two, in a good location, reasonably priced, with a nice atmosphere and low key entertainment, then this site could be for you. Watching the sun setting over the island each evening was a sight to behold.
