Spent two nights at Toddington Farm. It's a small basic certificated site without toilets or showers but Ehu is available, if needed. The site is behind a barn and is sheltered on three sides. We chose the unsheltered side as we wanted the views. At night, we could see Blackpool Tower in the distance, fantastic!
Haigh runs into the next village, Aspull where there are a few pubs. The Balcarres Arms is very near the site and serves food but was fully booked when we went. It is very popular so it's best to get there early or to book. There are also two chippies, a Chinese takeaway, a butchers, a Spa and a Co-op supermarket. All within a short walking distance of the site. There is a bus stop in Aspull with buses going to Wigan and Bolton.
Haigh Hall Country Park is a short walk from the site. There is parking there but we decided to walk to it. The are some great walks in the woods, which the dog loved. It's also possible to walk along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath into Wigan, as the canal passes through the park. There are numerous cycle routes with off road routes into Wigan and surrounding villages. There is also a cafe, golf course and Segway tours are available around the park.
We had a great time at Toddington Farm and I'd happily return to it again. Great price of £5 per night for two adults and a dog, without Ehu.
