A well-kept site on the edge of an interesting town.
The friendly, multi-lingual guardian was happy to suggest various things to see and do in the area, which include visiting a chapel perched high on a plug of volcanic rock (5 mins walk from the site) and a pretty waterfall with a swimming pool below it, a short drive (10km) away.
The van pitches looked fairly close together, but there is a large open area for tents, with plenty of mature trees for shade and a few picnic tables.
There is a big, clean toilet block near the tent area and a smaller block at the end of the site.
Popular with walkers and cyclists, the site has a common room with sofas and tv, a wine truck visits in the evenings at the weekend and a pizza van parks outside a couple of nights each week.

A great little municipal site which was good value and in an excellent location in an interesting town but also near the cycle path along the river. Unfortunately it had been raining and continued to rain while we wee there so the ground was rather muddy and everything just felt a bit damp.
Although reception was closed when we turned up, a young chap came out and told us we could pitch up and then tell reception what pitch we were on later. There were two toilet and shower blocks which were kept well although nafurally floors became muddy. There is a sitting room with tv which was well used mainly by the cyclists staying in one man tents and I expect was really useful considering the weather.
The campsite is about 5-10 minutes walk from the old town where there were quite a few restaurants and a market had just finished (Saturday). The town is famous for two huge lumps of volcanic rock and perched on top of one is a statue and a church on the other and both lit up at night - quite spectacular and just outside the site.
We only stayed one night en route to elswhere which we had booked, but we would have stayed a couple of nights to enable us to have a good walk around. Great walk along the river for the dog. Aim to arrive early as site was full by about 5pm.
