On balance I liked this site, but I am going to say some very frank things about it. It's just outside town and right by the sports pitches. We met several very friendly middle-aged French couples and had several nice chats, and we had a picnic on all the lovely grassy bit they don't let you camp on.

We picked this site because wanted to be able to walk into Castelnaudary and eat cassoulet. This worked well and the cassoulet was good.

To say the site is disorganised would be to understate it. We arrived in the dark and were dispatched to our pitch without a map or directions. There are a few pitches at the top by Reception, the rest are a long way down a hill by the Canal. There's what looks(in daylight) like a grassed-over skate park that we nearly drove over by mistake!

When we got to our pitch there was hardly any grass, just dried mud with tyre tracks. We're tent campers, this isn't our favourite. I know it's in the south, and it had been very rainy earlier in the season, but I so wanted to plonk my tent on the beautiful, green football pitch! Or on the grassy skatepark. It seems strange to have so much space with just 35 pitches tucked away at the bottom of the hill. And the football groundsman should definitely have the job of maintaining the camping pitches.

The pitches are quite big, though the hedges between are very high and have gone a bit 'leggy' so they don't provide the privacy you'd expect. And it's a long walk up the hill to the loos in the night, with undergrowth on both sides of the track.

The sanitaires. Well, what can you say, they were dreadful. They are the (old?)sports changing rooms and at first we thought there were only 2 toilets until we found 2 more round the side. The showers are through the changing rooms and the light in the showers is on a time switch located in the changing rooms. The showers themselves are fine.

There is a track through the trees at the back of the site and some children had been throwing sticks over the fence and made a hole in our neighbour's tent. The towpath on the other side of the Canal Du Midi is actually a road, so there were quite a few cars & motorbikes going past.

The staff are all local youngsters and their hearts don't really seem in it. You never see them outside the office. When we left the girl was late back from lunch & we were waiting to pay. Then she couldn't find our booking and questioned how long we'd really stayed. Well, if I was going to short change her I wouldn't have hung around for her to come back from lunch!

There's a tv room with no tv. There is a fridge and a freezer for campers to use.

This could be such a great campsite with new toilets and just a little bit of effort.

It's right on the Canal du Midi and quite a few customers were cyclists, so I don't suppose the council thinks they have to try all that hard.

Castelnaudary is a pretty, sleepy little town and the locals we met were all very friendly. The cassoulet was very good too!
