 Very large campsite divided into smaller fields with so many facilities you could spend your whole holiday on site. Not really my cup of tea though - although RCN say their pitches are large, most campers pitched multiple tents or caravans & tents so the space between pitches was almost non-existent. Very sociable atmosphere in our field - nice if you want to stay up till 2am (11pm quiet time was not observed), not so nice if you want a good nights sleep. Multiple sanitary blocks so no queues for showers. Seperate showers for men & women but toilets were a row of unisex cubicles on the outside of the sanitary block. All seemed to be cleaned regularly but as the loos were on the outside there were no sinks to wash your hands other than the dish washing sinks at the end of the building or the sinks inside the shower rooms but even there, there was no soap. Take anti-bacterial hand gel with you! Didn't try the on site restaurant but the snack bar was handy for morning croissants or evening chips/pizza. Staff were pleasant. Lots of small play areas as well as a central area with super playground, young splash area, sports courts etc & recreation room with kids activities. We didn't spend much time on site as our children are older. Location is lovely; right next to a national park. Best go to: Buitencentrum Drents-Friese Wold, Terwisscha 6a, Appelscha first to find info on the park & walking trails. Also a nice cafe there. Visit the Kale Duinen part of the park for plenty of sand dunes. The village of Appelscha is pretty & has a few cafe/restaurants. About 40 minutes drive away is Emmen where there is a newly re-opened zoo, Wildlands Adventure Zoo. The city of Groningen is not too far & worth a visit, it's a university city with a lively vibe. The Strip Museum (comic strips) is great.
