This is a lovely new (it was then) site in the field opposite the pub in a beautiful valley. I was watching badgers in the night! The toilet is in a new shed. I had a fantastic meal in the pub. It was just a short walk away from the Abbey (worth visiting) and a further walk to Washford itself. A steam railway runs along the coast so this would be an ideal base, just set back from the main road, and peaceful.

Stayed for a night in June. New toilet washbasin tap and CDP in a freshly mown field behind the pub car park and beer garden. Very friendly staff, lovely food and real ales. No noise from patrons leaving the pub. Badgers encountered if quiet! Playground in garden for children. Camping field level and sloping. Quiet site. Within walking distance of Cleeve Abbey down the lane and a a cider farm. Over the main road there's another pub, also recommended and a footpath to the coast I believe. Would visit again.

Lovely basic site, the very sort we seek out.
We had a very friendly greeting on arrival and could pitch up anywhere we wanted on the good size, mostly level field. The grass was freshly mown.
Having a caravan we're pretty well self sufficient but there is one (clean) toilet so you could easily manage a few nights in a tent.
Bear in mind there's no hook up, but we use a solar panel to charge the battery.
Stroll over the footbridge across the mill stream and you're in the Good Beer Guide listed pub, great atmosphere and the food was good, too. Just the right distance.
At the end of Abbey Road, on the A39, is a useful Post Office/corner shop for essentials including papers.
If walking to the Steam Railway (about 15 mins) cross the main road and take Willow Grove or the lane alongside the shop then turn left into Castle Mead. This will avoid a dangerous section of the A39 with no footpath and high walls.
Allow enough time as the road can be difficult to cross at peak times.
We liked it here a lot.
