 If you want a quiet woodland location to camp in but still crave the tourism of Amsterdam and Haarlem, this site is for you. If you like camping holidays on neatly manicured rows of plots then you'll hate it! Gorgeous little woodland plots are set up to give you privacy, or you can set up in the field (still surrounded by woodland) if you prefer. It seems to deliver on both a countryside setting (you have no idea you are so close to a small town) and easy to access amenities (5-10 mins walk to the local shops/restaurants). It's an easy 20 mins walk to the nearest train station, which will have you into Haarlem in 10 mins and Amsterdam in 30, and the trains run till after 1am. It's a 15 min drive to get to the beach which is sandy and long (and great for kite flying according to the other-half). The local wildlife is friendly (we had an inquisitive hedgehog and robins flying into the tent) which was just delightful. We have a bell-tent with a stove and they knew exactly what it was and didn't have any daft rules about classing it as an open fire!
The toilet/shower/washing-up block was simple and spotlessly clean. If I were to criticize, it would be nice if the showers were a little hotter. Wi-fi (in case you're desperate, but we go on holiday to escape it) is available at the office. Talking of the office, they couldn't be more helpful and everyone spoke excellent English (since Dutch isn't really on the curriculum in the UK). Where possible, they let you choose your pitch (I would imagine it's a little more prescriptive in the school summer holidays). Price was very reasonable as well.
The website is all in Dutch and this is really something they could do with updating if they want to attract more of the UK market. I resorted to Google translate, which was pretty good, but I'm guessing that might put some off.
We got the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland and it was an easy 1 1/2 hour drive to get there (though as usual the postcode was a little out, so print off driving instructions as well). We think the dutch are lovely and really enjoyed the laid back but well organised nature of this country. One note of caution over money though - lots of places only accept Switch/Maestro so you tend to really need that cash. Also you need exact change for train tickets so we found ourselves keeping coins on one side for that specific purpose.
