July 2004 Just back from a very enjoyable week at Rose Hill. The site and area were just what we were looking for, and I didn't want to leave.
As mentioned the site has a number of terraced areas to allow a level pitch as the site is on a hill.
The toilets, showers, pot washing and laundry were all spotless. I found the spin dryer in the laundry (used after hand washing swimming gear), and the wet suit wash very useful.
Personally the adjacent road didn't bother me, and I had no need to use my ear plugs.
Porthtowan itself is a very quiet place. A surfing beach with golden sand, clean water and lifeguards in the summer. Also a pub, bar, grocery shop, takeaway and a couple of surf shops. Just enough for a peaceful holiday.
We'd definitely visit both Porthtowan and Rose Hill again.

May 2004 Good level terraced pitches although a bit small for a larger family tent. Small size appealed to us for tranquil setting.
However ...... the site is right next to a very busy and noisy road and up a hill from Porthtowan beach so cars and motorbikes are at full throttle coming past. Especially noisy at pub chucking out time and was awoken at 5:45 a.m. by a Harley one morning.
Conclusion, great for surf doods and couples but not great for young families with weary parents.
Toilet facilities were excellent although shop expensive. £1 for a baguette.

August 2003 Given the setting along the side of a wooded valley, I'd say this site's location is probably the best thing about it. The pub food in the village is very good and there are a couple of surf shops, both offering lessons, and a well stocked, if small, grocers. It is a "quiet site" and that may not suit everyone, it certainly didn't feel very sociable for couples but the children staying seemed to be having a great time. This is a great site with a very high standard of facilities and it's only a short walk from the beach, which is level by Cornish standards. And it's worth going if only for the croissants in the morning.

july 2002 The pitches are mostly terraced and level but the steep drive to the ones at the bottom can be scarey. There are lovely loo's but when it is busy there seemed to be not enough to cope. The 4 minute level walk to the beach took me more like ten and its on a busy uphill rd. There are too many rules and regulations at this site to make me feel comfortable , including a 11pm curfew when they lock a barrier keeping your car outside the campsite with only a few places to park a car . Not even enough time to get back from the local pub.
