Nice enough site but a bit small in terms of green space and just a little dull - not much to do other than hang around your fairly small space and maybe check out the trains if you're interested in them.
Facilities were good enough but weren't cleaned in the 24 hours that we were there, which was a bit surprising in these Covid times. You get the noise and smell (hot oil) from the trains.
I wouldn't say it's especially small child friendly - not enough space, quite open in terms of places the kids can run and that includes down to the railway platform which is literally right next to the camping field.
It's also expensive - £30 a night for a tent and there isn't much to justify that.

Have stayed on this site a couple of times now and love the simplicity, great washing up, shower, and toilet facilities.
As Ropley station is on the heritage Watercress Line everything around is very well maintained.
Local towns and villages will provide everything you need and there are great rural walks from and to the campsite.

A bit of a mixed bag really. Very tidy and pleasant setting with very spacious facilities (toilets, showers, washing up).
Despite a previous review saying suitable for families I would say this is far from true. Whilst the campsite is indeed family 'friendly', it is not really 'suitable' for young children largely due to space.
The 'turn up and pitch' policy doesn't really work as 1. The camping space really is very small (it isn't a field but rather a nice green space in front of a nicely made access road) and 2. The tents are so cramped together (presumably only during busy periods but this would suggest a policy of accepting too many campers). Virtually zero presence from the owners and only a very small reception area which was mainly closed and only really useful for checking in. Not necessarily a bad thing and they are available by phone if necessary.
Coming back to the children, yes there are rules about noise but even the best behaved of children can't be absolutely quiet (I did try telling my one year old about campsite noise rules at 6am but he looked at me and just dribbled and passed wind). So I would not say this is suitable for children and should be left to those who want a quiet, functional camping break (or possibly convenient stop over) rather than for those who want space to enjoy themselves and be able to be sociable if desired.
Finally the rules. Would possibly be easier to detail what you can do rather than what you can't as the 'can't do' list was somewhat extensive.
This isn't intended as a scathing review at all and again if you want tidy, functional and convenient, this is fine.

Just returned from a weekend camping. Site very nice - a warm welcome from owner Jo. Site kept very clean - lucky not too busy this weekend.
Large pitches - you cannot park by your tent, so have to walk from the side road with all your stuff. There is quite a lot of noise from the trains and last night (Saturday) they ran quite late into the evening. We seemed to have an invasion from wasps too which was unfortunate! Saying that a very nice site and friendly owners.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this site.
The setting was lovely right alongside Ropley Station on the Watercress line. The station was active with steam trains over the weekend and we enjoyed nipping over to see them every time we heard a hoot!
The campsite facilities were large and spacious. There were several large shower cubicles with a stool and rack for your shower gel in each. The showers were operated with a push button. There were several toilets and a few sinks. The campsite was very busy during our stay, however there was never a wait to use any of the facilities.
The site itself ran alongside a track where campers parked their cars. It was very popular with families and almost every tent had young children in it. You could pitch up wherever you wanted which unfortunately resulted in tents being fairly close together. The first night was very noisy with children shouting and running around late into the night. The following morning we were woken early before 7am by noisy children again! There is a sign in the washblock with a list of rules and one of the rules says no noise between 10pm and 9am!
The second day we went out for the day and returned late on the evening to find yet more tents had arrived. Unfortunately families were playing ball games including football and cricket right outside our tent which we were not very happy about.
There was a family a couple of tents away from us who had a barbeque going on a little tray on the grass right next to the tents. Another of the campsite rules was only to have barbeques in designated areas, but again this rule appeared to have been broken.
We think that a lot of these problems were due to there being too many campers present and not enough space. We also think that because the owners do not live on site, some campers find it too easy to break the rules!
This site had a lovely setting but is probably best for those with young children.
