This site could do with a good refurb. Loos ok, only 4 out of 5 showers have hot water. The pub is handy to have on site, however, we only used it a couple of times due to cleanliness or lack of. No chippie as advertised. Quite a hilly site, although we were lucky and got a fairly level pitch. As a couple with no kids, we didnt really need a site with lots of facilities, so we havent missed anything. We had a great time in Cornwall but wouldnt return to this site.

Lovely site. Bit hilly, everyone seemed to be sitting on bricks to get level which I dont remember reading about in the site description. No shop on site, although there was a fish and chip shop which gave generous portions for little money and a pub on site (hubby said I can book more sites like that) that did food, although we did not get a chance to sample that. The down side of the pub is they had live music at least twice in the week we were there that was loud and went on until 11.p.m. And was not at all "easy listening". The loos were okay, showers okay, but could do with upgrading, The water in the taps came out so fast you could have showered at the sink, but the shower trickled so some work needed there. Staff very friendly and the site pitches well marked. Fantastic playground for the children, that was at the front of the pub, which was okay if you were there drinking, totally shielded from the site if you were not. Luckily my kids and the people's kids we went with are older, but if they were younger we would have had to have accompanied them as the side of the park was on the site entrance road.

The camp site is lacking a shop, but with St Austell only a mile down the road this is not a major problem. The pitches are not to bad although they are on a slight slope, Showers are a bit on the lacking side with only 4 to be shared for the men, but it was not a major problem.
There is a cycleway just outside the campsite which is a nice ride. Par beach accepts dogs and was not too bad if you don't mind the seaweed, Newquay is only about 16 miles across country where the better beach's are.
So we spent some of time at Watergate Bay just outside Newquay, Nice wide and long clean beach, plenty of space for all, Dogs are allowed on this beach and it has some nice shallow surf for the kids.Porth beach is another good beach for families just outside of Newquay it is a long narrow beach when the tide is out. (no dogs)
There are some very nice coves and harbours to look around on the St Austell side, Charlestown with its sailing ships and shipwreck centre is nice, Mevagissey is good for the shops, and Fowey as well. Would we go again? Yes.

After reading previous reviews we were a bit worried, well things have improved dramatically as the toilets and shower facilities were excellent. The new block had small bathrooms each with a toilet, shower and wash hand basin and in one there was a bath.
The pub on site was fantastic the carvery was really reasonable just £5.95 for an adults meal and just £2.95 for a childs and if the kids dont like roast all theire meals was the same price.
The staff was very freindly especially the owner. The swimming pool was great for the kids it made their holiday as it had a giant water slide and some nights it didnt close till 8pm which was great as it gave us a chance to get on and cook the bar-b-q without them whinging.

We went here in August last year. Most of the the pitches were on slopes, we had asked for two piches together, and when we arrived the staff just told us to go and park wherever. The roads around the site were atrocious. The facilities were basic

July 2003 It was a good base for exploring Cornwall and the prices were average. However, there were a number of flaws
1) The facilities left much to be desired, with the showers being very slow running, no constant temperature and quite dirty. The door was left open and birds had their nest in the rafters which made the experience a bit unnerving. The toilets too were quite poor, although all in working order. 2) No shop - could have done with somewhere to get bread a milk. We found ourselves having to make a daily trip to ASDA. 3) Staff - although one was quite helpful when she was there, everything always seemed to be shut - including reception. I regularly put ice packs in the freezer and couldn't get access to them. There was a games room which opened at about 6 and seemed to close before 7. Also, one member of staff was actually quite rude and didn't seem to care less. 4) Not brilliant for tents, as most of the fields had an incline. 5) Pool - supposed to be open in the morning but was often very late in opening. Although the temperature was good, it was a little small, boring and quite dirty. The waterslide was also very poor. 6) Restaurant/Pub - Small, smelly, dirty and overpriced - the food wasn't good either.
The site is a good base if you're looking for a quiet place to get away from it all, but because of the facilities available I would certainly recommend you consider other places in the area before booking this park.
For families - 3/10 For younger couples - 4/10 For older couples - 5/10

Quiet campsite. Lots of room to pitch tent. Showers and toilets under refurbsihment! Most of time showers were cold and very disgustingly dirty! Bird poo on floor!
Swimming pool was supposed to be open from 9.30am to 7pm! Never saw it open that early! Had to ask for it be opened and when complained reception thought it was open!
Ice pack freezing service was free but inside a garage which you have to clamber over equipment to get to freezer! Pub was ok but people very clicky!

From start to finish we found the staff very helpful and willing to please, if we had a problem it was sorted straight away. We had as much room as we wanted, but we were out of school holidays. On site there was a lovely pub, touch expensive, but meals being served were massive and lovely, we enquired about the take out service and was told no problem but the price was the same as eating in so didn't bother.
The site consists of statics one end, reception and games room, swimming pool (heated and clean), various fields some sloping, some flat with hook-ups, toilet and shower block (under refurbishment), large utility area with washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing boards and irons. There was also a covered dish washing area with four sinks.
We enjoyed our stay here because we like to have plenty of room and like to be left alone to enjoy ourselves, the picnic benches came in useful. From our point of veiw this is a quiet site, we give it a 8/10 (we stayed for 10 days).

We stayed on Trewhiddle campsite for 4 days and found it to be quiet and very pleasant. I agree with the other lady though, we hardly ever saw any staff around, and they could do with somewhere selling milk and bread. The showers and loos were always very clean, and pool ok, considering we were out of season. The bar and restaurant was very good 0 clean and welcoming. I recommend the pizza's. Excellent value for money and delicious. On the whole 8/10. We would stay here again.
