Very disappointed with this site. Pitches were very close together, only just enough room to put out our small porch awning. Also tents pitched directly behind us, so had people crossing through our pitch all the time. Electric hook ups quite far apart some people had to use extension leads. Receptionists quite abrupt. However the spa was very good, had an amazing massage but a little expensive. The shower block was very clean, but only four toilets for a large site meant queues. The village has no supermarket or petrol. Despite the lovely mountain views would not stay here again. ,

Excellent site, superb for kids and also a very fair price! Indoor pool and great outdoor pool with slide, clean facilities and lots for kids to do. We got a standard pitch and it was huge!
Bussang has very little to offer, except the usual bakery and butchers, however Le Thillot is less than 10km away for a Intermarche.
Toilet block good, but only one on quite a big site.

Domaine de Champe is a 5-star site situated in the Vosges mountains close to the centre of the small village of Bussang. Roads to the site are all ok for caravans and larger vehicles. The first building you will see on arrival is the restaurant on the right. Reception is a small room behind it. Reception staff speak English. Out of season the campsite accepts both Camping Cheques and the ACSI discount card. Access to the site is past a coded barrier (you choose your own code). There is no shop on site but the village of Bussang is only a short walk away. The closest supermarket, however, is about 15 minutes drive away in the town of Le Thillot.
Out of season you are allowed to choose your own pitch. The site has 128 pitches, most are for touring units. These vary considerably. Many are a reasonable size and are level, however some pitches do slope and some are small or are an awkward shape (long and thin). There are two pitch types: standard and deluxe. The deluxe pitches include water and drainage and are supposed to be larger. They didn’t seem larger to me and many were not the best placed or shaped. All pitches have access to electricity although some do require a very long lead. WIFI is available throughout the campsite. Our pitch (52) had a perfect signal.
The campsite has recently built a brand new toilet block which is positioned fairly centrally to the camping pitches. It is a large block with male toilets and showers on one side and the female equivalents on the other. They have built a wooden walkway around the block which is fenced and has only two points of entry, neither well placed for entry to the ladies toilets. Ladies have to walk around the outside of the fencing then back on the inside to get to their toilets. The facilities within the block are of a good quality. All toilets have seats and paper. However, there are only 3 plus a disabled toilet for each sex. Fine out of season, but these facilities may be stretched at peak times. The showers are in a separate room. Each shower cubicle consists of a shower area and a sink. The cubicles are large and there are plenty for each sex. Unfortunately they are controlled by push button and the temperature cannot be adjusted. We felt the temperature was too hot. The toilet block also has a large children’s room, a room for dishwashing and a laundry which consists of a couple of sinks, 1 washing machine and 1 dryer. Again these facilities may be stretched at peak times. The one obvious omission is a chemical disposal point. There are two chemical disposal points on site. The “official” point is at the front of the site well away from the camping area – it is actually the service point for motor homes. The second point is an open drain just inside the camping area. It looks like an ordinary drain and water point except the tap has a length of hose attached to it that people used to clean out their toilets after emptying. There are no signs up to say you can empty your toilet there, neither are there any signs up stating that the water shouldn’t be used for drinking. We tried to explain to the site how dangerous this situation was but they didn’t seem to understand.
The campsite has many facilities as you would expect from a 5 star site. There is a nice outdoor swimming pool with water slide, an indoor pool, a sauna, a spa room, a gymnasium, a snack bar (peak season only), a tennis court, a multi-sport court plus the usual play areas and table tennis tables. All of the facilities seem to be of good quality. There is also the restaurant at the front of the site which is also used by locals. We had a meal there one evening which was ok but nothing special.
The best thing about the campsite is its situation. It is located in a lovely area with mountains all around. The rivers Moselle and Hutte flow through the campsite. The main attractions are the Vosges mountains (be sure to visit Le Grand Ballon, Ballon D’Alsace and Le Hoeneck) and the lakes close by. There are plenty of walking opportunities. We didn’t visit many paying attractions but one that I would recommend is the Eco Museum near Mulhouse which shows many examples of Alsace houses throughout the ages.
We had a fantastic two weeks at the Domaine de Champe and I would definitely recommend it for an out of season holiday.
