Great position for a campsite - within the walls of the citadel and adjacent to a babbling river. Beware as the ground was very boggy when we arrived after a heavy shower.
The site is very open and it would accommodate a good number of vans. It was quiet when we arrived and we found a pitch and plugged in (not a massive number of power points) no problem - cheap but the facilities are basic. Loos ( no seats or paper) are clean but the showers were small and the water cool.
Very easy to get into the town and the whole place can be walked in about 2 hours (assuming you don't want to wander into the surrounding countryside - which was great but not on our agenda).
My only gripe was nothing to do with the site manager - it was a noisy family of Germans who arrived at 10pm, parked right next to us (despite there being lots of spaces) and made lots of noise as they set themselves up. Crying child, barking dog and constant slamming of their VW sliding door was irksome and it all started again at 7. 30 next morning.
The site is on a gentle slope encircled by an ancient wall that on one side separates it from the river. The grass is good and there are many trees. The somewhat 'tired' amenities are housed in a charming crescent but are perfectly adequate even if lacking in luxury - provided you're equipped with your own loo-roll. The manager is very laid back (appearing in his booth only once in the evening). The place is almost exclusively occupied by French motor-homes with a sprinkling of tents - some of them from 'pelerins' at the start of the 800 km Camino walk to Santiago in Spain.
All this is secondary to the location. The centre of town with its many shops, restaurants and bars is a 300 metre stroll along the river. Outstanding. And cheap.
