Just had a long weekend at plas onn isa, this is a lovely site south facing with beautiful views. We met the owners John and Lynn and are very friendly. The grounds are well maintained and tidy. No showers (we are ok as we have a shower in the van) but have a very clean toilet shed at the bottom corner of the site. Plenty of places to visit in the area that we love. This is a very quit site and have already booked a weeks stay.

Plas Onn Isa is a Caravan Club CL. It is in the hills just about 1. 5 miles above the town of Abergele. It can be found under Abergele on p531 of the CC Site Directory. It has only been open about a year. Owners John and Lyn Jones were formerly caravanners themselves and this shows in the care and attention to detail they have taken in preparing and running this lovely site. They are, also, locals and 'mines' of local information.
John and Lyn welcomed us, when we arrived, as if we were old friends, inviting us into their beautiful home for a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake. From reading CC website reviews, it seems that they do this with all their guests. Their home is in a former cowshed, which they have converted themselves and it has a lovely floor to roof gable end window overlooking the lovely southerly view.
If towing it is important to follow the instructions in the CC Handbook. If travelling from Chester leave the A55 at Junction 24 and take the A547 through the centre of Abergele. From the western side of Abergele road turn left onto Tan Y Gopa Road, just after passing the Tesco supermarket on the right and immediately before the castellated entrance to Gwyrch Castle. If approaching from Bangor direction on the A55 leave at Junction 23 and take the A547 through Abergele. Tan Y Gopa Rd is then a right turn on the outskirts of Arbegele immediately after the castellated entrance to Gwyrch Castle.
Tan Y Gopa Road is a good single-track road with passing places but we met hardly any other vehicles during the 10 days that we have been here. The single-track part of the route is just over a mile and uphill all the way. On arrival at the site it is accessed by a wide, gently sloping drive which John has had especially constructed and which is angled at a shallow angle from the road direction to make access easy.
The site consists of a large, sunny, south-facing, grass field, with more than ample space for the 5 units, located adjacent to the owner's home. The field is well-mown grass and has stupendous views from its elevated position down across the valley and to the surrounding rolling hills. There are EHU points for 5 units. The site is in a very quiet and peaceful location. The only disadvantage to the site that we vividly found out is that its exposed position meant that it is vulnerable to high winds.
It is a sloping site but John has made a number of homemade levelling ramps and wooden blocks to assist with the levelling of 'vans. It does not have showers but there is a single toilet and washbasin, cold water only, in a clean and cosy shed in the corner of the CL field. The toilet shed has flowerbeds around it. This toilet shed was beautifully laid out with, toilet paper, paper towels, liquid soap, hand sanitiser and automatic air freshener. This shed, also, has a rack of tourist info leaflets. The CDP is next to this toilet with a rinsing tap complete with hose. There is one drinking water tap, again complete with hose, near the hedge in the centre of the field. There a couple of benches at the higher end of the field from where the lovely views can be enjoyed.
There is a quicker route to and from the CL for solo vehicles, which John recommended to us, which joins the A547 between Abergele and Colwyn Bay. This route is only suitable for solo vehicles as it VERY steep and narrow. Whichever way one travels down to the A547 if one turns left towards Old Colwyn this gives easy access to Colwyn Bay shopping Centre and promenade and the A55 without travelling through Abergele. There is a small Tesco Supermarket in Abergele and a wide range of smaller shops but it gets very congested with traffic at rush hour. There is an Aldi Supermarket on the left of the A547 in Old Colwyn and a Lidl Supermarket further on the right in Colwyn Bay. There is, also, a Morrison Supermarket and a range of shops in the Centre of Colwyn Bay and this can, also, be accessed from the A55 at Junction 21. Llandudno and the other attractions of North Wales are easily accessible from this peaceful site.
We stayed for a total of 18 nights in late March. The weather was mainly bright and sunny however; on the night of 30/31 March, we experienced winds of up to 70 mph blowing straight across the site and into the side of our caravan. As this wind intensified during the evening, I placed the full aquaroll and wastemaster inside the ‘van over the axle, tightened the steadies and parked our car alongside the ‘van. However the ‘van was still rocking so violently that we decamped to sleep in the car at about 1. 00am. John the owner saw that our lights were still on and phoned to ask if we were okay. When we explained that we were sleeping in the car they invited us to stay in their spare room. They refused to take any payment for this!
By the next night the winds had dropped somewhat but nonetheless John drove his Landover to join our car alongside our 'van to screen it from the wind, as he had earlier promised. He left telling us to phone them if we had any further problems.
In all a lovely site and the excellent service we have received in nearly 20 years of caravanning – all for only £13 per night including EHU.

Lovely site with very good views across a green valley.
Owners very welcoming and friendly.
Good location for visits to Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Conway, Betws Y Coed, Llanwrst and many more local beauty spots.
This is a new site and is pristine.
The WC hut and grey water emptying area is immaculate.
Dogs, on a lead, are welcome.
A really lovely quiet site.
