We loved Cotton Star camping!
It was a little gem of a site. I think it also helped that we were lucky enough to stay on the first weekend of lovely weather after enduring the interminable cold, wet and miserable spring of 2024. I visited with three friends, plus four teenaged children.
It's a basic site with a tap and two portaloos (which are kept clean and regularly stocked with loo roll). There are no showers or hot water, but this is not something that bothers us.
There is a place to wash up, plus a mini honesty shop mostly selling things to repel midges and mosquitos (needed) and logs. There are no bins, but there is a recycling facility in Low Bradfield a short walk/drive away and you have to take other rubbish home to dispose of.
The site only opens for weekends and it's not far from Sheffield, so it's ideal for a short break.
You can have open fires and there are a couple of fire pits for use. There are also a few big wooden picnic tables on the site which can be used by campers. You get them on a first come first served basis. We were lucky, as the site was not especially busy when we visited and the table came in very handy.
Sarah the owner couldn't have been more lovely. She came round a few times each day and always had time for a chat and was really glad to help with anything. We kept our music on too late on the first night and someone complained, but she approached us about this in a such kind and tactful way that we were only too keen to cause no further annoyance. It's a relaxed site, but noise is expected to be kept to a minimum after 10. 30pm, which is fair enough.
The site is a large field surrounded by woods on three sides and on the fourth side is a quiet road which runs alongside Agden resevoir. The bird song is incredible and the reservoir is lovely for a walk round and a swim (officially illegal, but everyone's at it).
The pleasant village of Low Bradfield is a short walk away and you can get ice creams, visit the pub or cafe, or watch cricket being played. There is a shop at the cafe and it sells a few necessities, but not a great deal. However, that does not matter if you have a car, as you are so close to Sheffield.
As there is woodland and water close by, we were pestered by midges at dusk. Citronella candles and Skin so Soft are a necessity. The site can get a bit boggy on one side of the field after heavy rain, but we found it to be fine and nobody got stuck. The gate into the site is very tight and you'll need to take extra care if you have a big vehicle.
You pay per person, dog and vehicle on an itemised basis - it's not expensive, but for a basic site not cheap either.
Over all I thought it a great site and will definitely be back.

Really lovely campsite, nice and small in a beautiful location.
As long as you are comfortable with basic amenities (portaloos and a small wash up area) then this is a lovely place for a weekend stay.
Sarah was absolutely lovely and came to check all was OK both days we were there.

Lovely site. Facilities were fine for what we needed.
We brought a fire bowl and were able to go wooding in surrounding area to have a fire along with BBQ.

What a fantastic site basic but set in a idyllic setting. We stayed one night so we could explore the nearby village of Low Bradfield with its village cricket ground and its pub the plough which serves great beer and food.
The site is set on the side of reservoir but be careful of the entrance as it’s a bit tight.
I would highly recommend this site for a peaceful getaway.

A stunning location! Surrounded by woodland and opposite a beautiful reservoir with fields all around.
Bradfield is picture perfect with a cricket pitch, duck stream, great pub, village hall etc all just a 10 min walk down quiet lane
Campsite has 2 fire pits with plenty of wood around to gather; standpipe with washing up bowls plus 2 Portaloos. We loved the serenity and back to basics. It's essentially a field in a fantastic setting which for us was what camping is all about! Only slightly spoiled by a family with rowdy kids up until late but hey ho so people not as considerate as the rest of us.
Sarah was very prompt to respond to text; sent all necessary information and I was able to pay in advance via bank transfer. Sarah's Mum and dad popped by in the morning to check all okay.
Will definitely return!

Absolutely fabulous! Cotton Star is a little site hidden away in Bradfield. It is surrounded by woodland and so peaceful it felt as if we had been away for a week.
The owners are very friendly.
Fires are allowed in the pits provided.
The facilities are basic, two chemical toilets. Someone had rigged up an outdoor shower that was great fun in the summer sunshine.
Fabulous walks around the reservoir and woodland, lots of nature to see, identify and explore, and an amazing dawn chorus.
You might need your midge repellent.
The Plough pub is a short walk away for great beer and food.
Bradfield is a traditional little village with a shop that sells drinks and snacks. You can sit on the village green and on a summer weekend and watch the cricket. The village has a new hall which hosts a farmers market some weekends. It's place where families gather to share their weekend.
A fabulous place for a break with family or friends, very peaceful.

Back to basics camping sums up this site - if you visit with this in mind you won't be disappointed.
I recieved a prompt call back and was sent in depth details of how to find the site.
The people who run the site came across as warm, friendly and in no obvious rush to take the fee.
I will definitely visit here again, hopefully without the rain !
Thanks !

No facilities but the water tap and the 2 portaloos at the front gate.
The water tasted funky not sure why as it must just pump from the agden reservoir adjacent the field.
It was less a camp site and more a field. Which was freshly cut but the grass clipping were left down.
Really close to the town of low bradfield which was a nice short walk to the pub.
Had Mark come by in the morning to see how we were doing and collect fees.
We wouldn't go back but maybe that's because we want a toilet block.
