One word describes this site ' FANTASTIC', its location and the friendly and warm Northumbrian charm of the owners makes it uniquely perfect.
This site is on a working farm yet very quiet, the camping /caravan area is in its own fenced paddock, its level well kept grass area is safe for children, its toilet is in a wooden shed and inside its clean well decorated etc, it has a hand wash basin too. The chemical waste point, waste water dump etc are all well thought out, and are in one area, there are also picnic tables dotted about the large paddock too, its worth remembering there is room for the largest tent or other unit here the Paddock is very large no overcrowding.
It has spectacular views over the surrounding countryside with its gently rolling hills and local Forest.
There are well sheltered areas for tents and as many eggs for sale as you could ever eat.
It has many features but one outstanding feature is!. It is directly across a country lane to the entrance of Bolam Lake and Country Park. IT IS! just feet across a quiet country lane, so close its like it is part of the campsite.
Do you like Fishing, canoeing, horse ridding, cycling, walking, birds and bat watching? Then this is the place for you. There are areas set aside for picnics and barbecues. You are welcome to explore the park on foot free of charge and by being based at Bolam Lake House. You save on car parking fees as you don't need the car. At the country park there is also a Visitors Center with small cafe that sells sandwiches soup etc. One great feature is a lake side walk that has been laid with a surface with push chairs and wheel chairs in mind. Its advised THAT YOU DO THIS ANTI CLOCKWISE, It has a bridle way for horses and cyclists, your welcome to exercise your dogs there too, the lake is surrounded by its own woodland that provides a home for its native population of red squirrels, and you can see, many, many varieties of birds both woodland and aquatic. However that's not all. Throughout the year there are organised events many designed to keep children and adults happy. Events like Tracks and trails where staff will teach you how to follow the animal prints etc.
Then there are orienteering days, Spring Birdwatch, Dipping the lake to find its wildlife, Squirrels for kids, some organised walks from the park to local crags and the nearby Buddhist Monastery, back in the park, there are children's photo trails, Minibeast hunts, and demonstrations on insect homes and butterfly Boxes. In August there are Bat walks, and October join the staff for Fungi for all. Here is the best news it is free entry into the park and some of the events are free too.
As I said this is almost on the Bolam Lake House Camping and Caravan Site in fact the bottom of many of your gardens at home will be further away than the entrance to this park. I have stayed on many lake side sites that were further away to the lake and woodland. I think my caravan is no more than 100 yards from the the lake, and as I said the campsite is inside a completely fenced paddock so it is very safe for children.
Other things to remember is the site is very near to the Scottish Borders, Hadrian's Wall, and the fantastic Northumberland coast. Then there are the Farne Islands, and Holy Island that is completely cut off twice a day at high tide. However if its Night life your after the Party City of Newcastle upon Tyne, is only about 20 minutes drive away. For those of you who cant leave the shops behind there is again the City of Newcastle, and Europe's largest shopping center The Metro Center about 20 - 30 minutes away. So there you have it folks a little gem of a site set in the rolling countryside of Northumberland England's most Northerly County. I will give you some advice as I have seen this happen many more times than I care to remember. This is a secret gem at present, but only because its a new campsite, So visit now ! As when the word gets out about this site and how its open all year, it will be so popular it will be booking only. So go now before its to late. OH AND BY THE WAY A Word FOR ALL YOU RALLY ORGANISERS! THEY HAVE A RALLY FIELD TOO. So What are you waiting for. Don't forget to come in the Autumn
Too, the colours of the surrounding trees will be breathtaking.
Dont cheat yourself get here, tent, caravan, trailer tent or motor home, just get here, before every visit requires you to book up months before your visit.
