Nice enough place next to the river, bit of road noise when a lorry went past but it wasn’t too busy.

Weather was atrocious when we were there so we didn’t venture out much but easy walk into town if you need anything. We watched the rugby team training from under the main stand which was fun and next door’s campfire under a shelter until it blew away.

Friendly staff. Level pitches some of which had plastic grids underneath to stop you getting stuck in the mud.

Well kept place, bogs etc spotless and even a washing machine with an honesty box.

£22 with leccy which is pretty reasonable, especially compared to many other sites in the region.

Decent place for a stopover.

 Absolutely brilliant.

Facilities were outstanding and the volunteer staff were fantastic.

We would definitely recommend this site to anyone touring this area.

Convenient for the town which was in walking distance.

Excellent, quiet and relaxed site. Within easy walking distance of Langholm town but peaceful.

This site represents the best value of any that I have stayed at for many years.

I did not check out the toilets or showers but they are the facilities used by the local rugby club so I am sure that they are good. The toilet cassette emptying point is easy to use. There are enough drinking water taps.

The site is within easy reach of some beautiful countryside.

The site is very dog-friendly with dog bags supplied at each pitch.

Having read previous reviews we have to say the site has been upgraded and there are plans for more improvements. In particular there are now 12 motorhome friendly pitches with plastic mesh and sand covering.

On some site search sites there is an old reference to young grass and on Google Earth it shows M/H's parked on the track round the site and caravans on the grass. We are here now and it is definitely much improved. Well done to the groundkeeper. Mae & Bill Morton

An ideal one-night stop-over on my way further north. I'd also be happy to stay there longer, and investigate the area.

I rang beforehand, but the site was quiet, even in early August. I was the only tent on the field; there were a few mobile homes. It's a well laid out field, with clear tracks, hard standing, and grass areas.

I met the (very friendly) gentleman I'd spoken to on the phone, the following morning, and paid. It's really quite cheap. But the facilities are fairly basic - though definitely adequate. It's an area under the end of the rugby grandstand, with toilets + showers (M&F separate), plus a clothes/dish washing area. Clean enough, though quite old. With just a few people on the site though, that was fine.

I got the feeling the site is happy for people to just turn up, pitch, and see them in the morning to pay. I asked if I could do that next time, and was told yes, that would be fine.

Field is flat, quite near the road (it's the other side of the river) so there is some road noise at night, but the A7 is not particularly busy overnight.

Langholm seems a nice small town too, with takeaways etc, and a nice park area by the river. The campsite is around a kilometre from the centre.

I will definitely use this site again if I need to break a journey, and would consider a longer stay, to get to know the area better.

A very relaxing stay, buzzards & ravens overhead by day, multiple owls and stars by night. A7 closed at night for road works, can't say how noisy it would be normally.

The site fees are the same as 2014: £13pn for a MH plus £3 EHU. This is an "old fashioned" site, and that's not a criticism - flat grass pitches, as closely mown as the rugby park because the grounds keeper is the site manager. BYO water hose for refilling, and a grey water canister for longer stays.

Phone to book, or turn up - except at Langholm Common Riding on last Friday in July when the site is full (it was almost empty on our visit); choose your own pitch. The helpful welcoming Manager comes round at the beginning and end of his working day at the Rugby Club to take cash or cheque.

Hot showers, laundry free but no tumble drier, washrooms very dated but cleaned first thing every morning (new shower curtains needed). No Wi-Fi, good 4G. No play area, children played Frisbee on the rugby park and cycled around. Dog walking around the perimeter, access to the Ewes Water for a paddle.

Quiet walk into town off the main road, along the back of the rugby park and past the Buccleuch Estate office, with a small Co-op, plus butchers & hotels etc.

Whitshiels Cafe near the site entrance does breakfasts. Buses every 2 hours to Carlisle or to Hawick (and on to Selkirk and Galashiels); Hawick has quality tweed & cashmere outlet shops and a good Morrison's by the bus station.

Plenty of walks in and around Langholm. We enjoyed walking up the quiet C-road opposite the site to the beautiful monument to Hugh MacDiarmid (poet), then uphill for panoramic views from the iconic Maj Gen Malcolm monument, back downhill past the bonkers golf course, wander around the town (formerly had 14 woollen mills, almost all now gone); there are many painted bicycles parked covered in colourful annual flowers, and many foot bridges over the 3 rivers; 5 miles total. Or go around the race track in the middle of town and along the River Esk, turn back through the estate woodland. More info about other walks from the 'Love Langholm' shop in town.

Also worth driving or cycling up Eskdale, to visit the Samye Ling Tibetan Monastery; have coffee at Eskdalemuir Community Hub; stop for the stone circles etc on the Prehistoric Trail; or read about Thomas Telford the famous engineer, born in the hills above Bentpath (where there's an interesting memorial to him by the Westerkirk Library).

In short, setting aside one or two niggles, this site is one that people seem to keep coming back to - I think we will too.

My son and I have just returned from a three night stay, on this site. On arrival, there was no-one there (and no other visitors) other than a gentleman repairing a grass cutter. He had his head down and was unaware of our arrival. As this looked like a case of pitching then paying when the part-time warden arrived (I had booked on, a month earlier) we chose our pitch and drove onto the grass to turn and reverse. Oh dear, big mistake! My 3. 5 tonne 'van sunk - big time! The grass was as spongy as, well, a sponge, and I had dug in deeper in a vain attempt to move my 'van out. Fortunately the fella working in the corner had his own transport - a tractor - how lucky was I? He had the 'van out in no time and informed me this was a regular, after lots of rain. We decided the best solution was for me to half-park my 'van on grass and half on one of the roads. This worked as we had a day out during our stay and got off/on and off again, no bother. Here was another downside: the mains water had been turned off for the winter and wasn't back on, for our arrival. Our lovely part-time warden was doing his best to rectify the situation. Because the site is part of the rugby club, he accessed the kitchen and, literally, 'panned' water to our tank, whilst my son used our regular watering can. Fortunately there was to be a 'do' on the next night and ladies were already working in the kitchen. He stated that the plumber only turned up when he felt like it - not good when this site was officially open from 1st April and this was now 6th. He finally turned up yesterday (8th) and turned some of the supply on. On leaving this morning (9th) the water in the EDP was still not turned on and I couldn't clean out my loo. The facilities at the rugby club are fully functional but in desperate need of a clean. The floors, walls, ceilings are all a bit scruffy but handbasins / showers / loos are clean. However, the EDP loo was absolutely manky! It's a shame things didn't run smoothly, on our visit, as it is a lovely spot and access to Langholm is perfect. We can only thank our kind, part-time warden for doing his best to try and rectify the 'downers' to make our stay pleasurable. Oh and 'Tractorman Jock' for pulling my campervan out!

Stayed at this site for 2 nights. Site is situated just off the A7 on the outskirts of the lovely friendly town of Langholm. Site is adjacent to Langholm Rugby Club's ground. Level grass pitches no hardstanding. Showers and toilets (2 for each gender) laundry and dish washing facilities are situated under the main stand of the club. Also washing machine. Showers are free and are powerful and with plenty of hot water. Clean and tidy. Paid £16. 00 per night including electric hook up. Warden friendly and helpful. Lots of nice walks in town and nearby. Good cafes, shops and hotels within a half mile walk. No children's playground but loads of grass.
