Please be advised that this lovely campsite is now no longer available as Mike Patterson, the owner, has retired and the new owners have closed the site.
It may hopefully be open again in the future but not at present.

Couldn't get in at other sites as left it late to book. The site is a large flat grassed area with trees round the edge. They have 30 pitches 20 with EHU. The owner is very helpful when our EHU cable did not reach he lent us an extension. When we arrived the place only had a couple of pitches free but it never felt crowded. The facilities are basic but clean with 2 toilets and one shower for the ladies and the same for the men. There are two washing up sinks but only one drainer outside so some times there is a queue.
It is very well placed for exploring Kent and Canterbury. 3 pubs locally that do food but did not try them so can't comment. The field also has a mini golf for the children. I am a very light sleeper so the road noise kept me awake at times but was no problem to my husband so I think that is me rather than the camp site. It also didn't mater what size your tent was or if you put up wind breaks as long as you stayed within your allocated pitch. We had to cut short our stay due to an emergency at home and the owner refunded our fees for the remaining nights including that day even though we stayed well after the 12 o'clock change over time.

We have returned from our 5th trip to this site, the owner is very friendly , the site is very child friendly too which was very important to us as we have 4 children of our own and usually camp with other friends and family, this is never a problem here for pitching has always been together. . The showers and toilets are always very clean and tidy, not state of the art but perfectly acceptable and usable.
We didn't venture off site on any of our trips as we go for a family holiday and peace and quiet, and I think we would be hard pushed to find any where to match what we have found here.
10 mins drive to any main super markets, or local shop 5 mins away but the owner always happy to give a map or directions. We love it here and I'm sure you will too , happy camping.

Stayed at this site 3 days with 3 kids and they had a great time
The facilities were on the sparse side but perfectly adequate (clean loos, shower by 30p token , plenty of hot water) and even though it was school holidays the site was not too busy. There was an outdoor washing up area with plenty of hot water which meant you could see the kids while doing that (or send them to do it!)
They only allow you to pitch round the edge of the field (only one field) so there was plenty of space for the kids to play and ride bikes and they were in full view the whole time, there was a kids golfing area which provided extra entertainment (free) and they were willing to freeze ice packs at no charge.Very friendly
Would definitely recommend and go back, only slight draw back was noise from road, but only a country road not a major double carriageway or anything

We left it last minute to book space for the bank holiday weekend, and needed space for a tent and a caravan, as my parents were joining us for their 1st weekend caravanning (only had it 4 days)
Was able to get in and pitched together, site was easy to find and the owner very helpful.
The site is nice flat grassy area and there is plenty of room. We picked a sheltered spot by the trees, but as you can only camp around the perimeter there is not really any exposed areas. The centre area is reserved for access and for the kids to play on and it's a big area!
There are only 20 pitches and everyone was used, but it never felt crowded. The facilities were not over run, there was the occasional wait for a sink but that was it. Toilets were clean and there was plenty of hot water.
There is outside washing up area as well as indoor ones, idea for keeping an eye on the kids not that you needed to with such a big play area there was never really any worry.
Weather was not all that great, but the atmosphere there was very friendly, we certainly got to know the people next to us, which is what the whole idea is.
Parents found it a great place and as only local ideal for a weekend get away.
Canterbury is a short drive, local shop at village is a bit of a time warp but very well stocked, and the local fast food place at Lyminge is a Chinese and fish & chip shop and food was good to
All round a great experience with not having to worry about the size of your tent either!
We will be going back I am sure of it.

After the last review was unsure, but had left it late to book and the owner sounded very nice on the phone and it was only 13 pounds a night with EHU, so thought we would give it a try. On approaching the site, it was really laid out well with big spaces, we choose our pitch about 500 yds across the field to the toilet / shower block. As we unpacked, I realised we had forgotten our towels, I asked the owner for the nearest supermarket to buy some, but he kindly lent us some from his house, which was great! The facilites are a disabled toilet n shower and a male n female consisting of two toilets and one shower, as the site wasnt busy we didnt see this as a problem. They were clean and had a bucket / mop and brooms to keep it tidy. The showers use a 30p token and hot and running well, with a detachable head so ideal for smaller children, I was in there for over 10 mins and still had plenty of hot water. My partner said the same for the mens.
You do hear some road noise, but the birds drown the sounds out. A very relaxing site, we didnt have the children with us this visit, which was a shame as the middle of the field is left free so ball games etc can b played. There is a small pitch n putt to one side, didnt use it, so not sure if clubs available to use or you take your own ??
Went into Canterbury using the park n ride as suggested by the owner, it costs 2.50 to park your car and ride into town. Unfortunately, we had only been in town an hour when I fell and thought I had broken my ankle, the locals came to my rescue and called me an ambulance. Thankfully it wasn't broken, but it meant our stay was over, as I was on crutches and now seemed a long way to the toilets. My partner spoke to the owner returning the towels and the owner automatically refunded a nights stay for us, which we insisted he didnt need to do, but he did. Which was very kind.
The site is near to Howletts Wild Animal park, so we have decided to return the end of June with our children and visit there, as its our daughters birthday.
I would recommend this site, yes it is basic, but clean with washing up facilities, but depends what you want from a campsite, a few local pubs recommended with good food. Good location to visit Canterbury. Happy camping !

This camp site is basic - I mean basic. 1 shower and 2 toilets per sex not what you would call clean. Showers were worse than useless, uncontrollable heat and heads full off limescale so it dripped on you! the only good thing was a very level site. We will not be going back

A pleasant campsite with a nice warm welcome. It is situated next to a road, I didnt find it a problem and my tent was based right next to it, however there are pitches on the other side of the field away from the road. A quiet camp site with a large space of green grass in the middle if you want to play games etc and on site mini-golf. One shower block that consists of two toilets and one shower that you have to pay 30pence for and it wasnt skimpy on the water. Based 10mins outside of canterbury, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would go again. I can recommend the rose and crown in Elham for very good quality pub grub a 10min drive was lovely food. Hope this was of some help. HAPPY CAMPING.

May 2004 Situated alongside the roman road between Canterbury and Hythe, this site is a good central base for exploring east Kent. Apart from occasional traffic on said road, this is a quiet rural site with a large flat field with pitches around the outside only, so never likely to seem too crowded (it was virtually empty when I was there). Basic amenities, showers on 30p token - based on electricity used not time. Pleasant walks along country lanes.
