Peaceful rustic campsite with lovely owners who go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
We stayed 4 nights here in this quiet corner of Spain. Site is within short walking distance to the walled town of Miranda Del castanar which has a few shops and restaurants.
Generally the food shops only open in the morning for a few hours. Beautiful views from the campsite and the owners let you choose your pitch from those available.
Pitches are different sizes, some very secluded but further from the facities. Small bar on site with a terrace perfect for looking up at the stars with a cold drink once the sun goes down.
This is a beautiful unspoilt region of Spain and the campsite is in the perfect location to relax and unwind.
Thoroughly recommend.

A bit late writing a review but have to say that this was the nicest site we stayed on during three weeks in Extramadura. It had only just opened for the season but the shower block was still spotless.
It would be difficult for large units but for campervans, small motorhomes and tents it is idyllic. Like wild camping with full facilities. We had a pitch with a fabulous view of Miranda Del Castenar.
Even though the area is hilly it is a flat walk into the village, a stunning walled centre. Good restaurants in the village and local shops which had all the groceries we needed.
Wifi at reception was good. The bar wasn't open in the early season but the helpful Dutch owner was happy to sell us a beer if we wanted one.
Definitely a site for nature lovers who like peace and quiet and beautiful countryside.
The area has plenty to see and do for a couple of weeks with lots of pretty villages to explore, country walks and Ciudad Rodrigo not far away.

If you want peace and serenity in beautiful surroundings and on the doorstep of a the Sierra de Francia with it’s extraordinary medieval villages … then this is the best site in the area.
Just 30 plots set within what used to be a country park of 2. 5 hectares, El Burro Blanco (The White Donkey), offers you an ideal location to dream or be as active as you wish. It is a lovely campsite in the best tradition of ‘nature and the wild’.
No manicured lawns, pools, chalets …. Just a very well maintained ‘natural’ space.
The pitches are mostly within oak groves, providing plenty of shade, as well as some in more open areas. Many are very privately situated so that you can really feel as if you are wild camping.
If the site is not full … it was only half full, at most, during our two week stay, you may be offered the use of the adjacent site as well … useful for car parking or anything else you want (we set up the dining table there, and parked the bikes).
Access to some areas might be tricky for larger rigs … but there are half a dozen plots close to the entrance that are accessible by larger vans or motorhomes. Most of the campers there when we were, were in tents of various sizes.
If you have a large rig, it would be an idea to check with the owners on pitch availability.
One set of ablutions services the whole site, so some pitches are a slight trek … they are organised in two symmetrical unisex sections … abutting each other. Each is used on alternate days so that the one not in use can be well ‘serviced’. They are immaculate. Showers are excellent, loos are English style with seats (own paper required). Washing up and laundry site on the outside wall of the ablutions, covered by a terrace roof.
The Reception area, which offers free wifi within it’s immediate surrounds, has a terraced bar area where the owners serve and sit with campers every night. They are great fun, with a quirky sense of humour, and totally devoted to the area and maintenance of what they see as a natural paradise … we had laughter filled and interesting evenings with them.
The campsite is about a mile from Miranda del Castañar, one of the best examples of medieval villages in the whole of the Sierra de Francia area. With several bars and restaurants, mostly offering extremely good value food (so much cheaper than French equivalents!) … and several small shops where you can purchase meat, bread, vegetables etc at a fraction of the price you’d pay in supermarkets, and with all the old fashioned chatter and personal attention … we couldn’t believe how cheaply we could eat. And the village has lots to offer, a real adventure trail of a place.
Within easy reach, by car are Ciudad Rodrigo (where Wellington won a famous siege), Salamanca and Avila, all well worth a day’s trip … and within the immediate area are gems such as La Alberca (incredibly photogenic, though more touristy than Miranda), and lots of smaller villages which are a delight to discover.
There’s plenty of walking in the area, with local circuits as well as major national network paths … a wonderful walking area. Reception will provide you with maps and details of all local walks, and advise what flora and fauna can be spotted from which locations.
The website gives lots of first class information.
We fell in love with this site and the area.
