Greeted by Swampy who was super friendly and helpful, he provided guidance on local walks and recommendations for eating. We had pre-booked a meal in the Norman Knight which is within a short walk and highly recommended.
The following day we walked a 3m loop around whichwood and finished in the lovely pottery, a must do while you’re there.
The site is very chilled with the key facilities needed. They’re not Glamping standard but are functional. The booking staff were very prompt and helpful when I enquired about late checkout.
Thank you to all the team. Very enjoyable stay.

My wife booked a 2 night stay here in the Dutch Cabin and what a fantastic place.
It`s probably the most peaceful campsite I have ever been to. No dogs, no kids under 12 & no groups.
The site is managed by Swampy, a really nice chap who is extremely helpful, even changed our gas bottle at 10. 00pm on a Sunday night.
As well as the Dutch Cabin, there is an American Airstream and traditional gypsy caravan to let as well as yurts. Not sure how many camping pitches there are but I think booking in advance would be wise.
Easy walking distance to local pub which serves food and real ales. Booking here also advisable.
Fabulous area and hope to return in the near future with my tent.

The site was fantastic. Great views, very quiet, well cleaned (but minimal) facilities.
It's true you can hear the bells continuously, though after the first night we grew used to them.

Thanks Antonia, to enable me to gather some energies on this amazing beautiful and peaceful site.
I was travelling from Scotland back to Germany and needed a break and some rest. In this enchanting place, set in nature, I could “charge up my batteries“ in order to continue my journey.
I 'll always remember this magical place and definitely will recommend it, hoping that not too many people will come and spoil tranquillity.

A really lovely campsite.
The site is set within the moat of an ancient castle site, with a further area of orchard. It is a very quiet site (no groups of over 5 people and no children under 12). No music, and no raucous talking round your fire until late at night. People did stay by their fires, but talking at an extremely low level, no noise past 11. Dogs are not allowed (except guide dogs / assistance dogs - contact the owner)
You can pitch where you like around a series of good firepits and a few benches and tables.
There is an open field inside the moat, where people camped round the edge, a smaller field with tents under the trees or alongside the moat, and then a smaller area down a steep slope just above the orchard - that area is not suitable for big tents and it is advisable not to take your car down the slop (there are noticed that you will get stuck in wet weather) so a very small distance to carry your stuff.
The site itself is very pretty and interesting, with a flock of wild geese parading about.
Facilities, for this 'rural' style of camp are excellent. There is a feeling that the owners really care about their guests. There is one flushing toilet and to compost loos, and two showers, with good hot water, in a shed. A washing up sink with hot water and another in the kitchen. The kitchen was a lovely touch. Constructed in a big summer house there is a fridge, freezer, cooker, electric kettle and toaster. Also chairs and table, all very homely and a godsend if you were hit by torrential rain. NO EHU.
The logs were excellent quality, kiln dried so generating no smoke, and extremely reasonable at £4 a bag. (compared to many sites that charge £5-7)
It was all very clean I gather the owners family were out and about cleaning, but I think this site also attracts responsible, community minded campers.
Lots of people there were cycling, or walking.
The huge woods behind the site are lovely to walk in, there is a pub within easy walking distance, but no village shop. We did visit the Straw Bale Cafe which is part of the Whichford Pottery, and which serves beautiful wholesome meals - we had the home made ice cream which comes in a variety of unusual flavours such as Rhubarb and Sorrel and Rosemary and Rose. It is not a cheap cafe, main meals seemed to be about £9, drinks were reasonably priced.
The campsite is an offshoot from the Holycombe Retreat, and if you want a perfectly peaceful, calming site in which to unwind, this will suit you perfectly. We loved it.

We spent 2 nights at the campsite (2nd and 3rd August) and had a wonderful time, the weather being good to us! We had a nice quiet spot in the corner and it wasn't to busy while we were there. The facilities were great, thank you for the electric shower, loo and the marvellous little kitchen you provide and the logs for the campfire were great and at a good price. A very peaceful site mainly down to I imagine children under the age of 12 not being allowed onto the site which is a great idea for those who just want to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and scenery! We went to the one local pub in Whichford who had a bbq on the Sunday evening and they were very friendly and then headed down to the next village, Little Compton (5 min drive) on the Monday to the Red Lion pub which had lovely food even though it was slightly expensive. The pub in Whichford doesn't do any food on Mondays but is open for drinks. The pottery place around the corner was beautiful to look in but very expensive. The café there shuts on Mondays and Tuesdays so we can't comment on the food there. Would highly recommend the site to couples who want to relax on a site that isn't to busy, hopefully we will come back again! Thank you. MM
